Some pictures from the late 1950's of the old single chair at Falls Creek. It ran up Grand Couer run between the routes of the present Gully Chair and International Poma.

Ha, I think I'm younger than you Sunshine! When I saw a thread with old photos of Falls Creek, I just thought it would be a good place to post these photos taken a decade before I was born!

Anyway, you've gotta love a rickety single seat chairlift built out of wooden poles and sawmill offcuts.

ruined castle poma station was still there till only a few years ago.

Dunno about that single chair, tho! Much rather a rope tow over that thing! At least make it a double chair so you fall to your death with a friend when those toothpicks snap in half.

I have seen the cornice there in recent times, though it tends to be knocked off pretty quickly since they created the terrain park below where it forms.

I think the last time I saw it was 2005??

WOW, great photos. I remember skiing falls creek back around that time. Cant remember exactly which year it was, either 89, 90 or 91, but there was 303cm of snow in the village bowl at falls.
I skied a lot back then (before kids) and remember dropping off that cornice between the scott quad and ruined castle poma. There was another good cornice on top of sun valley near the top of one of the old pommas. Can't remember exactly which one.
Ahh memories, the panorama poma, twin towers T-bar... There was a run i liked over near the big dipper called father fosters, or uncle fosters or something like that!! The closest thiong to a terrain park back then was the headwater poma in the middle of nowhere on the southern side of the summet, near the diesel powered link lift t-bar.
Its amazing how things chance!! I remember heading back country to mary's slide at hotham at around the same time!!lol

I should try and dig out some old photos. Somewhere (at my parents house) i have a photo of a bus parked on the great alpine road, with the snow on the side of the road being higher than the bus......and that photo was taken in early october. I think it was 91, or 90.
