A very long way from everybody
Dare I hope that Autumn is here at last? Must be nearly 2 weeks since we had a sea breeze, and today it actually rained - for about 1 minute, didn't make it to the bottom of the gauge but still...
I hope winter starts early, I've got about 14 inches left in my rainwater tank.

Looks to me like whatever is falling into the SW from Ex-TC Charlotte is evaporating or virga rather than offering any hope to soil moisture levels.

I used to live in Perth around 2004 for about 7 years. I never saw dams go up much more than around 25 to 40 percent. When was the last time Perth dams were 80 to 100 percent full ......sure not50 years ago?

Nearly 40mm in the CBD yesterday. The entire month's average done in about 10 hours. Localised flooding in some suburbs by the look of it, but thankfully not into my kitchen after I did some makeshift water diversion.

Canning Dam last overflowed in 1974. That was the last mega wet year in Perth, and the end of a 30 (or so) z year wet period. Since then rainfall has decreased by about 10%. Runoff into the dams has decreased by about 80%.

and yet our nearest BOM weather station, 12km from Perth only recorded about 10mm

It was 1974 when Mundaring and Canning both overflowed. I remember it was a reason for a family bbq out there

Wellington Dam, near Bunbury overflowed in 2014

I think that was only because the Water Corp was pumping water into it from the other dams.
I don’t know, but I do recall a particular deluge in that 4 year period where a little east of there we had a 1 metre wide, couple of inches deep winter creek go from its usual dry summer state to a 70m wide, 20m deep torrent through our little valley. So there was some water about

Smoke is apparently part of the weather now here. The ABC even mansplained inversions to everyone on the news last night as the cause of it, when it's pretty clear the smoke is coming from the fucking fires the government is lighting. Thanks for treating the general population like idiots BOM.

Inversions are also a well known thing to happen during our autumn and spring, it's hardly a surprise, and the department doing all the burning knows full well about them too.

being government, they will wait for the inversions before proceeding.

ABC/BOM just want you to be absolutely clear on it that there is a government imposed inversion causing it

Clearing up today, get a move on :)
Camping out end to end?
Day 1 done.

Nah not sleeping out, budget beach hotel room so we have a hot shower and proper bed each night.

Wind was brutal, plenty of rain episodes, but our poncho/pack covers worked a treat! They dealt with the rain well, and created an extra buffer against the wind.

Quite possible PB will be doing Day 2 on his own though, about 5kms out from Injinup Beach my right knee suddenly became excruciatingly painful on all downhill slopes, steps down were sore, but the sloped ground had me digging deep to put one foot in front of the other. No “injury” as such, just started hurting badly out of nowhere. Bizarrely up stairs, going up hill, walking on the flat, the entire length of Smiths Beach in the soft sand - all good.

I’ll see how it pulls up in the morning but it’s stiff and sore right now, and I can’t total myself this close to ski season kick off.
