    hi all,
planning to do a trip into Jagungal from the Round Mountain trailhead side in DEC. Just wondering if anyone knows how things are in there at present - was much of the area burnt last summer? We were thinking to head out via Hell Hole Creek - Dargalls Trail - Toolong Plain. Anyone know what state those tracks are in now days?

Thanks for any intell that people may have!

    Hey Cam,

Access to the northern end of Jagungal is currently closed including Round Mountain. The road will open early 2021 or if we are lucky the end of this year from what I’ve been told. Entering that part of the park is currently prohibited - map below.

The area east of Cool Plain and north of Doubtful Gap was burnt pretty badly. It looked like shit in June when I was there. West of Toolong is fine and wasn’t burnt. West and south of Tooma dam is open. Wheelers and Pretty Plain are good to go but because of the road closure it’s a pain to get to them.

Dargals Ft is fine in parts and a slog in others, Hell Hole is fine. Theiss trail is gone but maybe the fire has opened up the eastern end and there are only remnants of the track through Cool Plain (Toolong) now.

Might be worth planning something else. A wander around the upper Thredbo valley, Paddy Rush’s, Drift hill, Teddys hut, The Chimneys, Cascade might be worthwhile if you are coming from the Vic high country. Lovey area and seldom visited off the tracks despite it’s proximity to Thredbo. Everything south Mt Jagungal is beautiful that time of the year as well and access is fine at the moment.

oh wow. I had no idea. Thanks heaps for that. So sad to hear about the burn. I haven't seen any fire maps from last summer so was only aware that sections in the north had burnt but didn't know exactly where.

    Thanks for the alternative ideas!

No worries. This map might be useful. It shows what was burnt and how badly in the fires last summer.
