Anyone on here got any recommendations for semi pro weather stations for home/business use? Being a bit of a weather junky and having a Hotel/Motel that looks after lots of skiers/boarders in winter at the base of Mt Hotham I thought it would be cool to get a weather station that could publish weather data online. I have had a basic oregon scientific unit before and have found a few options online by them and more pro offerings by Davis. Does anyone on here use/recommend any of these and can you point an example of what they publish online?
Here's an example of what you can get via weatherunderground: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=IVICTORI324 It all depends on your software as to what they publish online, that said if you can get the raw data you can feed it into something like saratoga: http://saratoga-weather.org/index.php My Oregeon weather station feeds into meteohub via a raspberry pi which then uploads the data.
Just curious, how would you get a Davis (or similar) station to send data, say twice a day via a mobile sim? maybe a small mid afternoon image? UPDATE: Answered my own question: http://webcamerasystems.com.au/node/428 Bit 'over the top'...
Has anyone ever tried to replicate a BOM station with a proper screen? Any idea what brand of sensors etc they use inside?
Damn, yeah $9000 is a bit over the top. You could probably do it quite a bit cheaper with a davis or similar, do away with the base console, use something like this: http://www.meteobridge.com/wiki/index.php/Meteobridge_PRO to receive the weather data from the wireless sensors, then get it hooked up to the internet via one of these: http://www.tp-link.com.au/products/details/TL-MR3020.html
this one looks cheap http://www.ebay.com/itm/Davis-Instruments-6250-Vantage-Vue-Wireless-Weather-Station-/131434974199
@Billy_Buttons what are you using to get your data out of the Davis and upload it? Edit: ah I see, missed the powered by cumulus link at the bottom of the page. Are you using the Davis adapters to pull the data from the console?
Oh....it's not mine, I was just showing you one that I always refer to and knew it was a Davis system, sorry.
Yeah I saw they were using cumulus, wondering if they've got a PC hooked up to the Davis console or if they've gone down another path..
Hey guys, I found this thread as I'm researching a weather station upgrade for our new place. Is Davis still the answer? Any other basic info I should know? I have found this page to be helpful but thought I'd also come here to the Brains Trust for the real low down too http://www.monaxtestandweather.com.au/choosing-a-weather-station-the-definitive-guide/
>high squeaky voice< "Are all the Davis this expensive?" :O http://www.monaxtestandweather.com.au/search.php?search_query=Davis
Interested in this topic myself. Time to maybe upgrade from the old faithfull thermometer/barometer , rain guage and small aussie flag in the back yard . Not sure if I will tip a grand into it just yet .... Might just get a new flag .
Goes with out saying there a variety of "crap "on ebay. Get what you pay for / buyer beware comes to mind when scanning the options.
Lacrosse. @Claude Cat ? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/like/253039737932?ul_noapp=true plus this for comparison...
Looks ok. Although lighting detection is a question mark. A lot depends if you want to connect it to your PC. That's where the price starts to jump up.
Agreed about the lightning detection for this. Get that on my wz sub , which I do use quite often for work and beach safety gig. . More so looking at this for bit of home data to compare with BOM and maybe hook up / play around with the Wunderground....
I'd look at something like this which has direct WiFi connectivity (but no lighting detector) https://shop.lacrossetechnology.com...ts+to+Weather+Underground/x_sku/330-2315.html
Looks good CC. Has all the basics and wi-fi connectivity. Price is reasonable enough also. Will have a bit more of a read up , includes Wunderground . Then see if it mysteriously appears in the Office ....
It looks a lot better than my old unit! In the end the weather station is only as good as where you place the sensors.
