I worked for a dot com company some years ago and they paid thousands in having the site designed. Me being a recent graduate in information design then, prompted them into a vast overhaul of theri site design / layout / styles etc and as an in-house employee, saved them thousadns yet again if they had outsourced the version 2.0 of the site. Struck me though, the original was flawed a lot, yet that comapny gets away with it simultaneously charging a lot of money.

unfortunately that happens in IT projects alot

common events i have seen are

pay an external company thousands of dollars for a project and they do it very badly rather than use inhouse staff who could do a much better job

in extreme cases spends tens or hundreds of thousands on a project and then not use it at all - then see management do a cover my [auto-censor] scenario and it becomes a "dont mention the war" around the office else you get a black mark against your name

dont give a good employee a reasonable pay rise - they get annoyed and leave and then employe a new person but pay them many thousands of dollars more per year

i have worked at a lot of places over 20 years because i find that companies do not treat the employees very well and i have learnt more and been paid more by moving - if i found a company that looked after me i would stay (a free ski trip per year would probably do it) [IMG]
