Just reached double digits in Canberra with strong southerlies. It’s cold!
Snowing on the CTs
Well we have our image of a train wreck on hand.....no snow forecast in the comming week...
Outlook is looking like a poor season....
Team Bears observing stillness outside the window....overcast....radar looks favourable for rollerblading activities....
So our thumbnail is ready !2019 shaping as a disaster ?
Fog slowly starting to clear out of Melbourne City, we're up to a balmy 8c now from 7 earlier. From the BOM:
Also, minimums from friday morning, again credit from BOM VIC:
It snowed lightly on and off all day at perisher. Not really accumulating though. However, nice to be out with flakes falling
Would be cool if the resort apps had a live count of how many guns are running. Even better if they gave a % of snow making capacity. EVEN BETTERER (sic) if they linked the guns to the trail map. Imagine a little star lighting up on the map when the gun turned on. Would be very engaging...
++Sun is now shining in a glorious fashion diwn by the beach in Middle Park .....
Team Bears pounding the path on those blades avoiding the feral bikes but only just!
Sunny still coolish but a better day than previous.
Wowza. At least 3/4 the state under freezing. And a frost warning for the entire state. Not too often you see that.
Melbourne yet to break into the double digits still, but we are getting close. Reminds me of the August day we had about 2 or 3 years ago where we were fogged in the entire day and hit a peak of 9c
Further ground cooling.....
You know its winter when the prom is by far the warmest spot in the state!
Is that wind blown from the guns or a little bit of nature’s own on the Perisher cams?
As I reported in post #55 it was snowing on and off all day today at Perisher. Quite interesting, as the BOM forecast for this morning was only a 10% chance of precipitation. It was not just one flurry, snowed quite hard at times and came and went all day. So I would not be suprised if it was snowing now
All this is leading to the conclusion that next Monday I may make the first long drive of the season!
Melbourne peaked at 9.6c today. Doubt we will exceed it by 9am tomorrow so it could be one of our coldest days in a few years?
Already socked in with fog in Mitcham, will be epic if is continues to build overnight. Forecast of 15 tomorrow feels unlikely...
Good snow tonight at Smiggs , heading towards a couple of cms this time
Today was Melbourne's coldest June day in 36 years, and the coldest we have experienced since August 2 years ago.
Also, temps are increasing in the city. We're over 7 now whereas before it was just over 6. Looks like some cloud is rolling in so if this sticks around we won't get down to 2 in the city.
Bouncing between 3 & 4 degrees at our place in Canterbury.
Just got back in from PV on the weekend. As reported about 1cm this morning. Kids were training at Blue Cow and up thee it snowed consistently till about 11:30 when the sun came out. Guessing 2-5 up there based on the accumulation on the snow gums.
When we came down and walked back to Corroboree all the morning snow had melted in FV. I was told it was snowing at Bullocks at 9am. Still was nice to be out in it.
Geez, it's cold in Narby atm. Left a heater on all night, but I'm still frozen. Will stink today, water pipes are frozen.
As I thought would happen, Melbourne didn't get anywhere near our forecast low of 2. The city hovered around 6 & 7 most of the night, only dropping to 4.2 at around 5:50 according to the BOM. Once that cloud / fog rolled in at about 9 the cap was put on the lid.
Plenty of suburbs around in the negatives & low single digits though.
Depending on how long the fog sticks around for it could be a cold day again
Another dusting of snow overnight at perisher, probably just under 1cm
And nice snowmaking at Hotham... and it’s Monday...bummer...
-5 in Narby at 7:30 - according to the car.
Nah..the might of Aussie snowmaking will save us.
1/2 way report... in the snowmaking challenge Perisher is the big brother.. with almost doubling lifts and runs against Thredbo. I guess it is the length of runs added being the most important part.
Little foggy western side of Melb.
Some bus idiot managed to stuff up the Domain Tunnel with a break down.
Team Leader threatening to punch the lights out of the usual imbeciles on the western ring Rd !
Definately the state with the most useless motorists!
Clutch assembly got a real work out as Team Bears ground along the Monash at stupendous forward velocity.
Now returning to weather....well not much happening ...slight wind ...cold.
A “Grey”dull morning in the southern city of note!
Forecast top of 15 with sunshine!
Hurry up sunshine Team Bears need good sunlight to maintain operational activities!
Maybe it’s an opportunity to revisit this article and do a Bunnings run..
Just out for lunch in Melbourne, crikey - in the shade and a bit of wind it's positively arctic!
Looks great, for ducks.
Sure is. Had a flat on the bike this morning, so went outside after lunch to fully inflate the tyre. Very cold in the shade.
Pretty much same in wollongong
work from home day
Strange that the maps didn't have a low or trough marked on the weather maps off the east coast, when clearly this morning it was spinning by looking at the sat images - Am I not seeing this properly or did the maps fail to show it properly ?
Edit - latest run has a trough for tomorrows maps
Just a question, who is Team Bears ? I have seen this written for a long time and have been wondering who it is.
I do agree the drivers are terrible as soon as you get past the new estates heading into the big smoke, but we will still allow people to get licenses that can't drive, so the government can keep adding more and more legislation to make money off motorists using the road toll..... if they were serious about bringing down the road toll, they would make sure people can drive before giving them a license and also tighten up laws for international people who drive on our roads for years before actually being made to go for the test.
First icy windscreen of the year this morning for me North west of Melbourne.
Steves lady substitute in the hills. If you get what i mean.
Concentrate gang....boys are rocking n rolling in the other important capital to the far Nth!
Interesting amount of snow out wide of Eyre T Bar at PV. The snow that has been falling over the past 3 or so days looks something like 10cm. I know some might disagree but the crew I was with out there today generally concurred with the estimate. It’s dry and sitting on ice pack so pretty sketchy but quite skiable in places. There are a few other pics on the PV thread.....
Mrs Palmer and her 5 friends ? or I have no idea reading the last post referring to Team Bears.....♂️
In Joke I guess, I'm just a simpleton and a short arse, so I think it has gone over my head.
The walk for a late lunch was still feeling very cold in Port Melb, especially in the shade. If it was windy, it would have been feeling extremely cold.
Steve likes to take stuffed toys "Team Bears" on his adventures and the bears pose for selfies in steve field reports.
Hope this being in weather is ok.....
Darwin a bit shook up be the sound of these reports!
A 7.2 in the snow fields would not make anybody happy!
ENSO back to neutral.
Positive IOD is now active.
Guns pumping @Buller 1.8 degrees thanks to the low humidity of 24%
Guns are going tonight at the top of High Noon (1750m) and Friday Flat (1380m) but not at Merritts (1670m). Why would that be?
Inversion overnight in the hills (at Vic anyway). Lots of near zero or sub zeros in the Melbourne suburbs. City sitting on 3.8 and dropping
Could be just availability of water after so many days and nights of snowmaking?
Actually had a patchy light frost in bayside Melbourne this morning. We’re about 500m from the bay, about 10m ASL. Maybe once or a twice a year at most do we get even a light frost.
