This little critter was dodging skiers on a run at Perisher. After I provided him with a save path, he jumped onto my boot and tried to climb my leg. Trying to relocate him, he bit my hand. He also chased me for 20m or so before we finally managed to coax him back to the woods.

Local native. Can't remember the name for now. We've got signs about him in our lodge. Relocate rather than eradicate.

    Job well done there.

Sure? There's a few native critters wandering around.

Edit: Might well be. Not the critter I was thinking of.

Maybe an antechinus? It's hard to tell in your pic, but did he have a very pointed face?

Ears not big or crinkly enough nor snout long enough for antechinus I guess, so rat is a good call. Being a Perisher local @Telemark Phat probably is on first name terms

Hard to tell from that image. Looks to be too small to be a Mastacomys (broad toothed rat) which are about 150g as adults. Native rats are about the same size. Its face is hard to see, without a better look I'd guess Antechinus or a Buramys (pigmy possum).

Where did you see it @Martyr ? I've seen an Antechinus on happy valley this season. The nearest significant Buramys habitats are the closed area at Blue Cow and on the eastern side of the saddle between Mt P and the Paralyser.

I'm a boringdale rather than a Perisher local @Majikthise but when I was studying I helped out on the Buramys surveys at Blue Cow, Paralyser, Charlotte Pass, Koscisuzko Rd and Townsend, so I got to meet all of the small native mammals up close and personal. I know @PiniPowPow is another forum member who has helped out on the Buramys survey.

Perhaps similar. I've seen them on the snow at Mt Hotham quite a few times.

Probably somewhere between Rabbit and Guinea Pig, if a rodent. Marsupials may be a little different however, like Kangaroo perhaps?

Besides what they taste like we also need to know if we can train them to drag a small pulk...

I'm no expert on Australian animals, but I'm pretty sure this is a platypus.

I tried hunting him with a spade on rubbish day a few years ago before I knew what he was. He was a lot faster than me. Luckily.

So I ventured into this thread out of curiosity, did not expect to get rewarded by this bit of @JoeKing brilliance.
