I thought a port for Canberra was the reason that Jervis Bay is part of the ACT.
*some of which is actually in NSW
Gotta love that pork barrelling
A strong amount of community enthusiasm for the railway was observed at the stakeholder engagement sessions but there was limited information provided to support the railway
Build a port at Jindy and extend the rail line there, much easier terrain to build a rail line over compared to the escarpment! Export on mass from Wild Brumby and Snowy Mtns Cookies via truck to Snowline boat ramp, cargo ship to Tyrolean Village then on to freight train! Once Jindabyne is Apenised each bottle of schnapps and pack of cookies will be worth thousands making the whole venture a very good return on investment!
You're an ideas man, aren't you
The best thing that happened to Jindy was when they widened the highway to double lanes around Lake George.
Face the facts there's never going to be a rail line, improved airport, hadron collider going into Jindy, the best anyone can hope for is double lanes all the way. That will be the biggest investment any govt will realistically look at. Whilst the governments view of ski resorts and regions has changed somewhat due to covid and them realising just how big a regional employer the industry is, these regions are still viewed as catering to the well healed who can afford a ski holiday. There will always be that component in any of their decision making.
Jindabyne is a great place just the way it is and that's part of the charm of the place. Sure a bit of beautification work here and there wouldn't go astray and maybe as someone here posted a foot traffic only area but apart from that the best dollars spent are on the schools and infrastructure for those who live there. Not for the benefit of the holiday makers. or at least not directly.
The traffic is only an issue in the mornings during winter. Their traffic movement studies prior to adding the extra lanes proved that. Leave earlier.
They are not going to spend anything to duplicate a road that is busy 2 days a week for 3 months a year. If you drive the road mid-week in winter it is a breeze.
Naturally to accommodate the marina we would need to build a canal to the coast. This also opens up the possibility of a ferry service.
YES @fenrir now we're cooking. Who doesn't love a ferry.
We could put a few blackjack tables on the ferry so the punters can warm up before getting off the ferry at the casino. Would need a well stocked bar.
Then they pump out too much water!
A lot of altitude to gain /loose in a canal from lake to see therefore many Falkirk Wheels will be needed - a major tourist attraction in it's own right!
Have you watched Ozark?
Well I did hear mention of ferry recently. But just on Lake Jindabyne to sort of link with the bike track all the way around.
... better off with a hovercraft
The lake is so low ... The steep banks of the sides are now shallow ...
Jindabyne needs mini golf. Sorry if someone else has mentioned this as I haven’t read thru all the pages of this thread but Jindy needs mini golf and it must be called Jindy golf and its logo must be a three ball snowman made of golf balls and it must be down near the Strezza statue. Happy for an invite to opening night to whoever builds this overdue facility
It was a brief conversation so I have no details. Ferry does not exclude hovercraft. If this does happen it would have to accommodate changes in water level. But engineering wise that is not a difficult task.
I have had some interesting experiences with the river crossing ferries and glider trailers. We went to SA 3 consecutive years with glider trailers. We experienced drought, flood and normal. The drought year we could not get onto some of the ferries and had major detours. I assume the ones on the main highways have been replaced.
It has Frolf, which is frizby golf.
This is what too long alone in the wilderness does to you.
Frolf is frubbish. Jindy needs Jindy golf
Ferrys need wharves ... like the pontoon at Horizons
Ok I’m building it. Let the doubters doubt! Just don’t expect a free round on your birthday like everyone else will get
Well not really. That was the point of mentioning the ferries they use to cross rivers.
A National Party project
Can we now please get on with turning the old line into a rail trail and bridle path.
Yeah...but wouldn't work in lake jindy...any wind abeam of that and you'll have a wet deck
I get the point. You do not think a ferry on Lake Jindabyne is a good idea.
Not my project. I am just sharing bits of info.
Nothing worse than a wet deck.
Needs a “big trout” like Gore in NZ.
Seen the Falkirk Wheel in operation. Very cool to watch. Great example of using Archimedes principal. Use remarkably little energy because the two sides are always in balance, regardless of the displacement of boats.
I see SAS aus is filmed around Jindy.
The ptc from Schapelle and Roxy (before they quit) has the lake in background
WTF was going on here? https://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-nsw-jindabyne-133823778
Someone had a taste bypass?
I wonder if it is owned by that person @skichanger that left the country and that whole gated community place thingy collapsed?
Nah apparently they are long gone.
Or like Adaminaby, 50km north.
Gross over capitalisation
Old picture. Adawhingetome locals call it the big gay trout now
Dinosaurs? Medieval armour? A boxing ring?
And who builds a sauna this side of 1977?
Wait I watched the video. Even better are the mounted deer trophy heads all over. And chandeliers...you can never have too many. I don’t think there’s enough wood paneling. It needs more wood...
The interior is a complete gut job.
Real estate agent bang on the money it’s one of a kind, not sure I like to see another one.
Video is well worth a watch, it highlights some of it’s worst features.
Sell for land value only as needs gut and rebuild to make liveable.
Athletes love sitting in a sauna , apparently it aids in muscle growth and is also good for increasing endurance and the cardiovascular system.
I'd tolerate it. Not for long
Pretty sweet spot and view, those windows.
My wife would totally divorce me
No accounting for taste
Clearly I’m no athlete lol
I haven’t read the whole thread so this may have already been covered but......
Jindy needs a carwash!
All that salt on the road has rusted out the underside of 3 vehicles I have owned over the last 10 years. Cars covered in crud all over the place.
Winter = Salty crud
How’s a lazy person meant to cope?
Like this..................... https://www.rainbowbeachcarwash.com.au/
That would do nicely!
I washed my car in Cooma on a rainy day (actual the snow day!), dad thought it was hilarious.
Came to Canberra on Tuesday, detailed on Wednesday, drove through a muddy puddle on Thursday!
