Just curious the run lists on Hotham website refer to a black run "lower sun run" and I'm just trying to figure out what that actually is because I can't see it on the map...is it just the section of Sun Run south of the Great Alpine Road? Because if that's the case then woohoo I've done a black run!!!!
Playground is listed on the website but the trail map says "Lower Playground"...I reckon it's just the lower section of Sun Run
Could be wrong but; I've heard the slope directly below sun run referred to as lower sun run, while the side of the slope across next to the playground chair is lower playground. So if you come down sun run, when you hit the cat track you either veer left to Sundowner, or right to lower sun run. Playground comes down the little valley next to the trees and under the chair, then crosses the cat track and either down lower playground or right across to WoD. And if that all makes sense, then you already know the area well enough not to care Slush
Sun run is not black. Never heard of lower sun run , so assume its the drop off at bottom of sun run that is normally referred to as lower playground, which is black and can be challenging if not in full cover or in heavy wet snow. Is fantastic for secret stashes during a fresh dry dump.
I see that Lower Sun Run is listed on the trail report for Roadrunner. My guess is that it is the bottom section of what was the Sun Run T-bar lift line.
Must mean the bit between the race finish area and Mother J's... They seem to invent "upper" and "lower" for a number of trails around the resort.
On the new phone App. trail map a few more commonly known runs now marked. i.e. Peach Bowl, Hollywood, Big Slope Gully & Ridge Run. "Kat Skiing" now deleted.
Picked up a paper trail map at hotham last weekend and noticed the Kat skiing was not on the map this year
Probably happened a few years ago, but QC downgraded to green, Holy Mackerel (also off the Big D lift) now gone...
QC back to green is as it was in the 1980s. And of course, the runs are not gone, just not marked (in case of Holy Mackerel, best accessed by ducking under a rope...)
