Just like to take my boys down some new terrain when we get there in a few weeks.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Pros and cons?

    Cheers

the two off skiers left at Merritts would be the easiest.... not that hard at all... just not groomed...

Little Beauty is steep but not that hard.

Some lines in Bushranger aren't too bad either.

My vote would be with Little Beauty, a steep pitch but very wide with an open run out (as long as the little creek at the bottom is covered which it should be this year).

Powder Bowl under Cruiser chair is not a difficult pitch either although never gets groomed.

Though the Powder Bowl is pretty straightforward (and a lot of fun) to ski, the exit run is a bit tight if you don't like sliding through relatively narrow tracks between trees. I also wouldn't like to have a ski eject and slide down past the rope, as you could be looking for it for quite a while amongst the trees.

You could start off on the bumps underneath the Kosi chair just below Eagles' Nest (you can avoid the worst bumps at the top if you're careful how you enter it). Then slide across under the Bluff (again, avoiding the top section where the biggest bumps and the steepest pitch is) and down into Little Beauty. It's a great alternative to the crowds on Supertrail!

I have always wanted to do it, Halfmachine. I hear that it can get particularly icy very quickly. Is it narrow, steep? Why is that one listed as black?

    Thanks for your help.

Funnelweb gets moguls the size of Volkswagens but when it's been groomed you'd mistake most of it for a middling blue run.

However, it has a very steep pitch at the start (which you can avoid by entering past Ramshead top station), and another steep bit towards the bottom, which make it black.

The Tunnel off Anton's is good for kid's as is Powder Bowl/Boundary Riders off The Cruiser. My 10 y.o loves them but got quite intimidated by the steepness of Funnel Web, he was OK on The Bluff.
PS, he's been skiing for 8 years

Funnelweb itself is not that hard, but the falline through the dogleg is just wrong and all the bumps end up going the wrong way. You can't help it, it just feeds you across the run... must be really awful on a snowboard. Funnelweb is a dream once or twice a year after a big fall if you get in quick enough!

Little Beauty is probably Thredbo's easiest Black Run, especially in good conditions.

Like all black runs, the Bluff can vary from Blue in good conditions to double black on really crap days. The Tunnel is good fun!

    Thanks guys.

Heading down in a few weeks for 9 days.

Before then, all I need to do is lose a few more KGs and strengthen up the knees a bit more.

got back a week ago from my first trip to thredders, i found there to be very little difference b/w the blues and blacks in pitch/width and it was only grooming that separated the them. parts of true blue/world cup are as steep as little beauty for sure, the glades was bumpy all week- certainly found it as challenging as anything black i skiied.

Yea, examining Thredbo's claimed Black Diamond runs on thier current trail map, the easier ones that came to mind are:

Little Beauty - didnt this used to be a blue run?! Dunno, but it's one of the best (groomed) runs in Australia early on a good day in good cover.

Be sure to check out True Blue (blue run) right next to it too.

The Bowl (near the Merritt's chair) - usually a bit dodgy, with some wierd terrain angles that don't really appeal to me a lot of the time. Also has a wicked depression partway down sometimes, which funnels all traffic through it and can make for some entertaining viewing from the (Merritt's) Chair [IMG]

Pen and I did Little Beauty on the weekend. I must say that I did not do many runs on the weekend but that would have been my favorite run. We had a ball.

Little Beauty is easy with half decent conditions but when the snow gets funky the pitch at the bottom can get quite difficult.

On an average day hands down the Tunnel is the easiest.

The run in to the exit for the Powder Bowl makes it a little more difficult.

As others have said though there's nothing really scary at Thredbo.

Cannonball, followed by Little Beauty.Nice way to avoid the crowds.

    Talk about "feel good" run.
