today I've tried to add some fb links, tweets and spoilers to various posts, but there's nothing there when I post it
weird!

[edit: the spoiler one works now]

Are you on phone or desktop? If desktop, win or Mac.

If win, any antivirus/anti malware installed?

Browser?.. etc.

Here’s the thing about embedded content. It’s complicated. It’s essentially a vector into another site and that’s at the heart of the privacy leak issues. Thus, as changes are made to ‘protect’ you from these leaks, things like embedded content stop working.

It’s complicated, and because you are intimate with what you post yourself, you know when it’s not working. Whereas if it’s not working on, say, an article on The Guardian, you don’t notice or only see an odd empty white space.

And of course this business of cross-sharing content is asymmetric. On Facebook, everything works for two reasons. Everyone wants their stuff shared on Facebook and no publishers are running hostile tech that gets blocked. And the publishers mechanism (opengraph tags) is simple v’s the loaded complex JavaScript that fb provides that enables their stuff on our platform.

It’s complicated - - and it’s asymmetrically unfair. The platforms with the power make the rules.

@Richard
it just happened again - post in thread 'The Morrison Government'

I mostly use an ipad mini 4 with ios 15.1, occasionally iphone 12 pro max with ios 15.1 - always Safari
I haven’t checked with a Mac, which would be running MacOS Catalina something or the current version of Monterey, both with Safari - will try in daylight hours
it’s mostly fb links

now daylight
looking on both Macs, still can't see either of the fb things per above links :emoji_carousel_horse:
I note that one of them has displayed the message 'cannot load Facebook SDK ...' - that appears a lot of other times but usually disappears
Any ad blockers? They can also play havoc. Or Chaos. ;)
I don't have any ad blockers installed other than those that might live in the apps themselves
I do use DuckDuckGo as my default search

funny thing
I'm typing on one of the Macs
I opened this thread in the other Mac and went to the fb 'Shovel' link
it gave the 'Facebook SDK' alert but now after some minutes it's showing the link per my initial post
and now it's showing on this Mac, just takes a while
so maybe it's the iOS devices?

not exactly appropos I suppose, but this popped up on a site I was visiting

the only word I understand is ‘bug’
[I was following some links about something called a steam cannon
as the wiki says, first devised by Archimedes
could be a worthy competitor to the trebuchet]

It's all about you.

Possible scenarios, page is interrupted before javascript finishes loading - dns is glitching on fb scripts lookup - safari/ios is too out of date - world is agin you?

ios and safari are both current versions*
so definitely a conspiracy

*there is another forum** where I can pursue this
I already have posts in a thread running there about Monterey and ios 15 not showing the right album art on songs copied to an iphone
no solution to that either

**running on the same software as this forum
