I will be staying in Jindy midweek for the first time in years (i usually camp at sawpit and avoid all traffic) and I have heard about the Jindy Jam at the roundabout.
What time do I need to be on the road to avoid the Jindy Jam?

When we stayed in jindy in July school hols, we were leaving at 0715 and getting straight through. We drove up to p and it was a smooth drive without drama.

I recon any later than that now on a weekend you're going to get stuck. Mid week might not be as bad, but still we are in the peak of the season now.

I find if you are outta Jindy by 7:30 you will have no problems. It's between 7:45-8:45 that the Jam occurs. If they got rid of the merge outside of SMGS there would be no problems!

Even if it's 745 I like to be on the road by 7

Rather be on the hill waiting than pussy farting around in a lodge or something

    Apparently this morning too.

I'm so happy with our accommodation choice, we left at 720 and was in the perisher car park no later than 750.

I left Canbrrrgh at 0510 this morning and copped it big time through Jindy. First time I have ever tried the day trip in July/August. Going to leave earlier next time.

defeats the whole concept of canberra being close to the snow if you cant do a mid winter day trip.

It will certainly help, 4 lanes into 2 instead of 4 lanes into 1. A lot of the backup this year has also been in the feeder streets around Jindabyne. With both main roads clogged with traffic, those trying to get out of Jindabyne township and join the conga are struggling.

FWIW we are on the mountain on the weekends at 6.30am most mornings, and the there are already a couple of rows of cars parked. Even if we have late starts, I like to get up there about that time (maybe a little later) and have a coffee, hate driving behind punters and buses!

Oh and while I'm here, the stretch of road between Jindy and the bridge is 100kmhr, NOT 65 / 75 / 80 ish???? Why people why?

Whenever I get into the resort early, I always feel relaxed about that and don't get it in gear fast enough to make anywhere near first chair, unless that first chair is onto slowgums.

Weekends didn't ease up last year. Not as bad for sure, but busier than in previous years. I'd expect the same this year.

Too late :p It is ridiculous though that you have to leave home at 6:30 to be on a lift at 8:30, with a 45 minute drive. One of the many reasons I haven't skied Saturday's this year.

We get on the road at 6:45, miss the traffic and get breakfast at Aldos when they open, not that much stress.

God I hope they get the roundabout fixed correctly, I think it needs a dedicated exit lane from barry way

I'm not sure the plans include the roundabout, more just extending the double lane to the Alpine Way turnoff.

Traffic was fine. Just two dickheads in blinged Hiluxes being entitled

Last weekend was pretty dead in comparison to other weekends

We stay at discovery park, so leaving at 7:20 is no dramas. We are still up in the perisher car park before 8 and leisurely suit up prior to dropping kids off at ski school.

Quiet Wonkey , don't give away the game plan or next year it will be 5.30. I too like to get up there early and get a nice close carpark spot , I bash the door down of a certain coffee establishment pretty damn early and proceed to prop up a stool for a while. At home I am up at 5am everday so its no biggie for me.

The extra lane is so the police can pull every single car over, breath test, drug test, search car. They need this lane because previously pulling off onto the dirt shoulder presented a hazard to officers. With several incidents of police not far enough off the road to carry out these tests recently, they campaigned for a specific lane at Jindy so they could (quote) "hit the snow crowd hard" (end quote). I would be expecting to allow at least an extra half hour in the morning once they commence full operations, particularly in peak season when the procession out of Nuggets is nothing short of absurd.

It's just a Jindy thing....rather comical.....one crazy town feeding all of the ski resorts...

Resettle in NE Vicco is the solution.Abandon the whole NSW thing!!

Perhaps some cattle dogs could be utilized to speed up slow drivers and deter the over eager police force from causing traffic mayhem!!

Team Bears did suggest the Jindy ring road .....certainly it's the "Iconic traffic jamb" of the eastern states!People even come from Canberra to see the traffic snarl?

Not the right lane - it is for emergency vehicles only. The left lane is the police lane.

And hovercraft might find it too cold on those windy days
