Must now pay for beginner's area - platter lift. Although not sure exactly what this refers to.....magic carpet or poma....or both.
And in 2017, there were much better value early bird combo multi day passes (with cardrona). Now only relatively poor value TC only multi day passes seem to be on offer at this stage.

I noticed no combo passes for TC and Cardrona too.

As a friend here put it, TC have "shit the bed" when it comes to pricing this year.

Have to agree with this unless you are prepared to hike a bit on a good day.
Come to think of it, most of NZ is over rated unless you can book last minute to score the big dumps. Even then the lift lines are terrible at all the big names.

I haven't queued at Coronet Peak in the last couple of winters. The Remarks is really sucking up the punters these days.

I was at Remarks last July, and wasn’t in a queue for anything more than a minute or two. I think the really good snow happened just after we left though.

Do they need to build more lifts? ive never been but always strikes me that the 'big' fields there only have 4-6 of them.

Maybe after the early bird season ticket period expires they will release some fair combo deals. But defo looks.like a change of strategy. The loss of the generous free status for the platter and poma looks ominous

Anyone heard of good ski hire in Wanaka? The lift prices are making my eyes water - normally I would hire on mountain but looking to save without skinting on quality

    TIA

Plenty of ski hire places in Wanaka. Racers edge, Outside Sports, Base the main ones. A couple smaller ones as well.

Theory: they're cashing in on trustafarian ski bums from the northern hemisphere, who want to keep their endless winter going, and whose research for their NZ season consisted of hearing that "Queenstown has sold out and Wanaka is totally where the all the core riders are at".

All the frugal seppos and canadians go to South America now (or get a job at a club field).

I live in Dunedin. This is the third time over recent years that a bunch of people I know who have only skied TC exclusively for years have ditched it for NZSki season passes. First time was when they pushed season pass prices over $1k for the first time in about 2008 iirc.

I'm quite happy for all the dickheads to keep clogging up Wanaka.

They've dropped senior passes as well as students, 17-75, you all pay the same regardless. Hope this trend doesn't extend to other hills.
Will be interested to see what they do with Jucy ski4free, apparently running again but be very surprised if in the same form.
    Was nice knowing you TC;(

The jucy rental ski4free deal is up and running on their website. Reading the t&cs it seems there's only limited vehicle types and you need a second person with to claim.

Thought he was just consulting through Darby Partners? To be fair he led the charge on aggressively cheap season pass pricing through the 2000's. Ha is the golf course actually happening now? Thought it had pretty much ground to a halt since Darby bought the land.

There were substantial geotech issues with the gondola. Shit rock. Could be done but mega pricey.

...just checked....an early bird purchased 6 of 7 TC pass (also combo Cardies!) last year would have set you back $396. or $66/day. kids were $198/6 days or $33 per day. This year.......even if you buy 10 days now......$95/day adult $47/day kid.
That is as ass-pounding 40+% increase.

Yeah the day pass is now at 135 bucks, and for what? no new terrain, no new lifts, no new runs, maybe a handful of snowmakers?

Feels like the lingering sense I have with some of the south Island. Even though their business is tourism - in all honesty - they'd prefer you weren't there.

That might be how the locals feel (shit it's how I feel a lot of the time nowadays*), but it's definitely not how they feel.

    * has more to do with such things as 20 tourists turning up to a 12 bunk hut in the middle of nowhere in Fiordland and such.

Yeah, they love punters. its us season pass buying jerks they dont like, Especially us touring folk, occupy a car park. 3 single trips up curvey, dont buy $50 fish and chips at lunch, leave late in the day.

I had to check the website to see if the $135 was actually true! For the size of the ski area and number of lifts that is outrageous.

I reckon TC doesn't like what happened when it's expansion plans were nutted by the locals and they're saying we're not here to provide a community playground.
Go ask QLDC to provide one
We'll make it more expensive which will POTENTIALLY mean less patrons sure but revenue increase covers that and if they don't lose patrons of course it's a major win for them

    exactly
As I posted, I reckon this is TC management thumbing their noses at the locals
Tourists aren't going to worry about an extra $30 to ski after they've spent thousands on flights accommodation ski hire and cars to get there in the first place
Just as an addendum- the lift changes in the Saddle were the nail in the coffin for me.I haven't really enjoyed skiing there since the 2 seater and T-bar came out

JucySki4free is still a thing. So much cheaper to rent a jucy shitbox, park it somewhere, take the keys and get a weeks free skiing. Its so cheap that if there are 4 of you in the group it would be cheaper to all rent cars then it would to pay full price for passes.

I dont get how it is about locals. Who i presume buy season tickets???? Seems more like juicing tourists. Making them pay for the poma...which i reckon locals didnt use anyway. And amping day tickets and weekly passes...which again i thought would be the domain of tourists.

It is limited for sure. But I tell you what, every...single...local is up there on a powder day. And it dont take too many of those a season - at 135 per day - to make a season pass worthwhile.
