they're boasting about all the snow that has fallen but they still aren't mentioning when they are actually going to open a lift or two. [IMG]

I don't think there is a justifyable reason for them not to have atleast one or two lifts open tomorrow or Thursday, besides the fact it might not make them any profit!

A couple of years ago it dumped on the friday and saturday of the opening weekend and on sunday merrits and the cruiser was open, there was about the same amount of snow as there is now. does anyone know when they plan to open a few lifts?

Did I miss something? I wasn't aware that much snow had fallen? I've only been listening to Vic reports, but know Thredbo would have to have at least 20-30cm on virtually no base to open....

cin, I'm hanging for your first reports when they come in though [IMG] [IMG]

Prepare for a shock then SB. [IMG]

Word from the mountain crew was 35cm around Cruiser at 8am, that would have increased throughout the day and hopefully more tonight, but they want to run some groomers over it first, and set it up, etc.

Be patient folks.....Never waste a good base. Let it build-up before it gets chopped up and ruined by self-ascending, mid-week devotees alone. [IMG] [IMG] Besides, the machines can destroy it if the snow is not settled and bonding.

Please read link below to get an understanding about grooming. [IMG]

High Noon really depends on how much they can make down the bottom. Despite appearances there isn't that much snow at the bottom of the mountain.

True Wang... big inversions are on the cards though I think, snowmakers should be able to pump out crazy amounts down low in the next few nights.

With Cruiser open I was hoping for Saturday but missHac and I feel the '91 Civic would be rather cramped and sluggish with skis inside it (and chains would be hard to find for the small tyres). So maybe Sunday then. I think PB was mentioning $65, something like that would be OK.

Wow '91 civic! That's almost as old as my '90 Feroza! People who haven't seen me for years can't believe I'm still driving it, had it half my life!

The Civic's from the early 90's are actually great little cars, they handle really well, +1 had one when I met her, and she even thinks it handled better than the Lexus IS250 that she traded in last year. [IMG]

Its only done 135K and is gutless, esp as its an auto, however dragging one's butt just above the road surface means it goes through roundabouts etc pretty well. It is a good little town car but has made it to Thredbo (for Christmas 2001, when it snowed). The decison maker has decided it is Sunday though.

Why open Friday Flat first not the Crusier?

Maybe, being a bigger area, and getting more snow up higher, it is taking longer to prepare Merritts.

Friday flat is man made mostly, all levels welcome-max lift dollars. No downloads. Well except people that can ski but they generally avoid early season.

Next is cruiser, ditto, beginners progressing. Download possible.

Next will be the long cruisy ones, supertrail and high noon. If its dodgy at the top of Kosi then groom the Snowgums bits. Thes are more reliable.

Hopefully Basin/Karels will get natural and will open when ready. Antons and later Sponars last will get natural and the groom. Probably last to open, Sponars is particularly neglected (a shame).

This is a natural Thredbo season progression. Shuts down in reverse usually.

This could change slightly now they have snowmaking on the lower parts of Sponars and Antons.

its the top of antons / sponars that is the problem early season

The snowmaking would be for fixing high traffic areas

It's actually getting the t-bar tracks in, Sponars in particular, which hold up their opening. It's a very rocky area and needs a fair bit of snow to fill in.

Perisher deffo got the edge over Thredbo this year in the opening. Can clearly see people enjoying themselves on Mount Perisher when looking at the cams. Merritts doesnt even appear to be open so I guess High Noon isn't either. Very few people even on Friday flat.

    I hope I am wrong.

actually says high noon is open...weird, on the time lapse I cannot see anyone skiing merritts. Would they open High Noon but not Merritts?
