How long till you think that the rest of the terrain at Buller will open?
Looking at going up soon and would dearly love for the Black runs around summit and Federation to be open!!!

not for ages...check the post in the mt buller section. no doubt this post will be moved there. the rain did some serious damage and pretty much brought fed bowl back to "square 1".

Ummmm...if not July 28th, then probably July 30th or how long is that piece of string you have there or can someone please advise me what day in August will be a powder day??

When there is enough snow you fool, needs the best part of 1m at least. Next time maybe try a question like " How much snow is needed in the Federation bowl before it can be opened. "

Rubbish. 20-30cm should comfortably open Southside, some of Upper Wombat Bowl & Wood Run, with a further 20-30cm to open Sun Valley, Lower Federation etc.

If the weather follows the forecasts, i'd estimate about 3/4 of the mountain will be open on the weekend.

they rarely open the whole mountain at once, its hard to open all those lifts in one go. At this stage if they get their 20+ cm southside and woodrun are usually the first to get going. Cant wait!

Yeah andee but I have never seen them open all 6 in one weekend. Federation and the lower areas on the north side will likely not be open untill next week at the earliest(unlikely).

That said, Ill be making a trip up the first weekend they open some advanced terrain, hopefully woodrun and southside this weekend!! [IMG]

I thought it was 2, just getting peoples opinions.
What about around the summit area, around the grimus lift, another 20-30cm should see Mclaughlin Shoulder open?
I have only ever been up twice when this has been open.
Would make my day if it was the case this year!!!!!!!

Waiting for Griums as it's a nice side of the mountain, not used that much... Also great for getting to Summit and avoiding Bourke St in the morning !

    My standing morning routine:
    Carpark
    Up Horse Hill
Down Burnt Hut to warm the legs
    Up Grimus
    Down Summit
    Up Howqua
    Down LBS

My standard morning routine (maybe I was lucky as I've almost always had full mountain open for this)

    Canyon Rope Tows
Standard into Wood run then Up Bull chair (yay, up top before everyone else)
Down the pipe and Up Skyline
Down Mens DH and up Southside
Down LBS/Wombat and up Wombat chair
    Down Family/Boomerang Up Howqua chair
Down to summit chair and up it
Down Summit slide over to Boggy T
Head over to Burnt Hut (avoid the run as it has become busy by now)
Down Dam run, and up Horse
Down Discovery run and up the Red chair
Cross Bourke St and down Standard again over to Chamois chair and it's close to an early lunch time (to avoid queues)

Very dependent on the north side to be open and running (Boggy T, Horse & Red Lift) and out of the 4 years in a row I've been going to Buller, only last year I was unable to hit it!

    This year is lookin good!

Will the bottom of LBS be opening some time soon? Or are they setting race courses on Summit?

Grimus was meant to open today (Friday), however, they have had several mechanical issues......crew are still trying to get it running before the day ends.
Fanny's rope will hopefully be put out today so expect more terrain open by Saturday.

Surely they have tested the lift before now? is it an electric lift?

What I want to know is how often is the bottom of Horse Hill open. I see Buller rates the top half as excellent but has closed the second half. Those that have skied it, is it good and when does it open (only on the weekends)?

Gets patchy real quick down the bottom (because everyone wants to ride it when its open, and Cow Camp is an awesome run when it's ON!) but yeah, Cow Camp is da shizzle!

best used if you can handle a long T ride because the area between the lowest load point of HH lift and the T is where it bares out.

So how does Cow Camp rate compared to the other black runs (like mens downhill?). Do you think it will be open on Sunday (or does it need even more snow?)

Cow Camp is an awesome run. Not that hard (compared to other black runs), often groomed and the surrounding scenery of the run is beautiful with all the tall snow gums! [IMG]

yes, top half of fed is open. gotta cut back to southside lift. not sure why the bottom of little buller spur isn't open.
maybe they don't want people skiing the bottom half of robin's, powder keg, thulkes, etc. the thought of a walk back out might be enough of a deterrent.
although i heard some people were skiing down and loading onto the chairs by themselves [IMG]

spoke to lift operations manager and lbs isnt open because fed chair isnt open. yes scuba i could imagine that if you dont know what the chutes are, then your skiing ability is not high enough to tackle them. (im not trying to pay you out by the way)

Hmm it does become quite busy/dangerous when the bottom of LBS is open and everyone goes around that corner to the right. When FED is open some people go left to FED and eases the traffic.

Hope FED is open before Tuesday [IMG]

Not to mention the chaos of the de-merge/remerge of people hitting the short black (geez, sounds more like a coffee run) at the bottom.

"Wombat will be closed in the morning due to the repositioning of the mid load when it re-opens (mid morning), it will be to the return station. Federation will be open first thing, until Wombat is open."

So that means the bottom of LBS will be open all day ?
Fed only open until Wombat lift reopens ?

By reading that they will close it once Wombat re-opens.

BTW, I noticed on the cams Boggy Creek T-Bar is open (whoever is in charge of the lift status page on the Buller website needs to update it)

South side was open yesterday so theat made all of the top half of the bowl open. They were also turning fed on saturday and tried to open it yesterday afternoon to help out the wombat lift line. The other line that was turning on saturday was tirol, no tbars on it yet but it was deiced and getting ready. Awsome weekend, outer edge powder kege, cut 73 sun valley and Fanny's finish we all open with great even cover of snow. Skigirl loved it, in the good books again.
