To the best of my knowledge the weather station is located about 20 - 30 m away from the ski patrol base near the top of eagle chair. Cheers SP
There are actually daily weather records for Falls Creek going back 101 years to when staff of the Victorian Hydro Electric Company first wintered in the area in 1911. The trouble is that every 20 years or so, the weather station has been moved about 1 km, and as it is deemed to be a new location, the records start again. That's why the records for the current location only go back to the 1990's. It's quite difficult to get hold of the records of earlier weather stations nearby and do some sort of comparison of conditions a century ago and how things are today.
Hi, I believe it is near the water tank above the village, their is a station there but not sure if it is 'the" station 36°51'58.72" S 147°16'36.90" E
Polarnomad, The station located near the tank is for snow depth recording only (I stand to be corrected if I'm wrong on this count). I should also add that there appears to be some datalogging stations in the same area. I believe these are for the geotechnical (groundwater) monitoring within the village. I was actually up at the BOM weather station today and it is definately located just of the back of the ski patrol base. Not far from the new Optus tower that was erected earlier this year. Cheers SP
