But what TIME? Mesozoic era? A mixture of triceropods and sauropods...hmmm...I didn't think any of those were alpine species...

And come to think of it, what scale? That rocky prow must be at least 500 m high, so the mountains in the background must be...?

I'd say they're sub-alpine dinosaurs, and only in the summer months of an el nino would they dare venture to such heights.

Nice work on getting this thread up alex.

I'm tempted to say back of buller village somewhere?

    1) Thanks, we need something to keep us busy in the preseason..

    2) No telephoto lenses (or time machines) were involved in the production of the image above. :p

Almost there, the height of the top of the Devil's Staircase is a little lower than the ridge visible on the left.

And the dirt in that slide stuck to the fresh wax on our skis. Very long walk out.

Hmm I think stallie wins as they were the closest and its basicly right. It was actually taken a few hundred meters further out and a bit lower than their guess:

Map of photo field of view:

Photo of where it was taken from:

BTW I think the next photo to be posted should be done by the winner of the previous image (in this case stallie) so we don't just end up with heaps of overlapping image guessings in the same thread...

No, but I would love too. The Larapinta as well. However 4 month old son has put my longer walks on hold for a while. This is much closer to home.

Sort of looks like Mt Buffalo in the background, but the vegetation doesn't quite fit?

mmmm... could be Mt Macedon in the distance. Sun is coming from the left (the east?)... puts the photographer somewhere within about 30km of that range of hills.. puts him... if its sunrise...

    Bulla? Sunbury?

Tcross has it sort of. Its taken about 8km north of little river looking in the direction of Geelong at the You Yangs. It hard because Flinders Peak is behind the tank and that is the bit people recognise.

By the way why would you search Flikr?

Ok I'm guessing about the middle of Oberon Bay looking north towards Mount Oberon. Otherwise somewhere at Freycinet...
