I had a sus that the beach picturedin the earlier pic was not Tidal River.
yeah thats the low scrubby track from little oberon through to waterloo.
Is it Mt.Latrobe from Mt. Ramsay after climbing up from Windy Saddle?
I'm not going to be able to stick up a photo, so if anyone can, go for it. GS i do beleive its been solved. VSG has just done some post-detective mapping work.
Oops, Having just re-read the last page I see this has been answered! I am a
Ok, so where is it taken from, whats the flat ridge in the mid ground and the mtn in the back ground.
Track below Timms Lookout to Spion Kopje Spur with maybe Hotham in background?
Taken before fires?
I'm with you GS
Yep, I think its Hotham. Now tell me how many days before the fires??
One more go at waking this thread up with another easy one:
Vic Alps somewhere - Mt Howitt area?
I haven't logged on for some time, and just as I do this thread is off again....
Alex, they're all easy if you know them
In this case I do, Crosscut Saw from Howitt, but Romfrantic probably has it.
GS: Yeah you get it, Romfrantic was in the right area but somewhat vague.
Let's try a little more obscure, yet still backcountry.
Yeah, agreed....I was deliberately vague 'cos I was only 90% sure...but GS got more specific, it's yours GS. Now, your pic I have no idea! wild guess - Flinders, SA?
Not SA, and not Vic either!
No, it is in Australia. Prominent feature along a less travelled highway.
somewhere near silverton NSW
Way too far east.....
well you cannot get any more west in NSW, since its not SA, and silverton is Way too far east tht makes it WA. Only half the country to think of now.
Maybe gunbarrel Hwy?
sheesh when i first saw this i thought it was the world trade centre
the one at the top of the page is mt speculation from memory .
and the name of the feature? (not the bike!!)
Shouldnt be too hard
Grose Valley. It says so over at Darb
its looking at mt banks from the govertts leap lookout, photo taken around 11:00 am in winter, but thats too easy, i still have not worked out the name of the hill on the gunbarrel Hwy.
I was going to guess somewhere in the Budawangs.. (Don't know NSW ranges well)
Mt. Beadell. I thought you may have guessed that after punting on Gunbarrel. Mr Beadell surveyed all those tracks back in the 50s or thereabouts. Bit of an outback legend I believe. Beautiful country out there. Not much skiing potential however....
Might politely ask Graeme to refrain on this one, as he will probably know.
thats a cool photo carveman
Too easy, though I have never been there. NSW DLWC have a great website on NSW estuaries here , I recognised the very distinctive headland.
I wonder how often the river swaps sides ?
A mate of dad's took it out the window of dad's cessna, the pic is now my desktop.
It is a bitchin shot.
Thats a cool photo.
just wondering when this was taken - around New Year 2006?
Climberman, the channel seems to be fairly stable. Very occasionally the entrance blocks - this happened last 2005 for the first time in 40 years or so.
From the EXIF Data:
12th of October 2005
Graeme - yeah, sorry, was thinking on longer timeframes... I would guess every few thousand years mevve ?
sorry - darb problem. back later.
OK sorted now.
NSW - taken just after 7:00am this morning. Not very backcountry unfortunately - should be easily recognisable...any takers?
easy peasey, the road markers going through the saddle make it. Shot from Perisher with a long lens looking at the gap to Charlot Pass.
Hope im right after such a statment.
Spot on, Shrek. It's Perisher Gap. For years I've wanted to take the moon setting over Mt P with the sun rising behind - seen it so many times without a camera. Shot from Perisher carpark...just the standard lens (Canon S3 - guess it's pretty long when wound right out).
I'll post something a little more difficult later.
it was the size of the moon andthe comp[ression of the turns of the road that made me think it was a long lens. I was thinking >300mm. I like the pic, nice colour and the moon
Heres another hopefully easy one at a slightly later time:
Saw a similar sight looking towards dead horse gap this morning. Bloody moon was as big as the valley. Unfortunately by the time i could find a spot to pull over it was gone.
Change seasons... back to last Spring.
First guess is the exit up from Surefire canyon, although I don't recall the graffiti. Then I think why would a bland photograph be posted unless it was a significant place; Thunderbolt's cave near Uralla perhaps?
No sstone near Uralla - deep in the heart of Granite Country there.
For some reason I'm thinking Kanangra Walls area.
