Looking at the casuarinas (river sheoaks) along the banks, I'm guessing foothill country NSW.

    Wee Jasper?
Or further north, near Yass (Yass River)?

Got it Romfrantic. This is the Goodradigbee River almost under the bridge at Wee Jasper. Only problem is that it should be under more than 5 metres of water. It was about a foot deep, but still enough to cool off in if you've been in motorbike leathers all of a long January day.

If you have a bike that doesn't mind a bit of dirt, this is a great trip from Yass to Tumut. The Stables Tavern at Wee Jasper is a very different sort of pub. Very, very basic, but a great stopover. I believe there is another back road from Wee Jasper to Canberra, I'll have to go looking for it another time.

Turn S off the Yass Rd just S of the 'bidgee crossing at the upper end of Burrinjuck, about half way to Uriarra. Nice country, west of the ACT - stick The Mullion in google maps.

I've found The Mullion and it looks like you can get to the Wee Jasper Rd via there from Uriarra. But there is also another rd a bit further sth called Sawyers Gully rd and another further Sth again called Doctors Flat Rd. I haven't researched this at all yet, just noted that there might be an interesting ride. If you know any of these, I'm all ears. I'm only interested in fairly good dirt roads, my bike is more road than dirt and my dirt skills are very limited.

Oh wow, the Goodradigbee? [IMG] almost didn't recognise it! I thought it was too small to be the one at Wee Jasper, I thought I was way off....went there a couple of years ago for some kayaking at Burrinjuck, even then water levels were quite marginal.

I was there a year ago on a caving trip, stayed at the stables. I remembered jumping of the bridge into the river so went to have a look. If you tried it now you would put you ankle though your jaw.

Thanks for the warning. I've got a beemer F650GS. It's quite good on mild dirt, but I don't have the skills or the tyres for serious stuff. So it sounds like these roads could be a bit ambitious. Corrugations are fine, but deep sand/gravel, ruts, big holes, big steeps are "challenging".

google maps reverses sawyers gully and doctors flat. I think vsg has more map cred than google, but can you confirm that your version is correct?

Gosh Currawong, if you hadn't told us that bridge was up at Wee Jasper, I would have guessed Kingwill Bridge over the Wonnangatta River, up past Dargo.

I must have made that one late at night. Doctor's is more southern.

My advice was about Doctors Flat - mongrel road. And you don't save time... vs going up Mtn Creek road all the way to Cavan and going left. [IMG]

I think most of us agreed that the pics should be restricted to Australia and relatively known places in NZ.

I was "boycotting a non oz picture", mainly 'coz I'm no good on foreign stuff. Here's an easy local one to get things started again.

It scared the heck out of me and we were there on a dry day in April. I can't believe that a lot of people (including a few members of this forum), drive up it every weekend in winter when it's wet and/or icy. [IMG]

Mt Field West doesn't have a trig point. At least it didn't when I was there on Easter Saturday this year.

Nope, Mt Anne also doesn't have a trig on its summit...

Is it the Mt Twynam trig?
