Yes, it's Gibbo in the background of the Pinnabar photo. There's a nice little run on the south side. Not enough snow to ski from one to the other when we were there - that would be a great tour though.

hmm it looks a bit like the view from mt carruthers with the sentinal ridge behind the pile of rocks to the left and watsons crags to the right. looking at a fog covered geehi.

I am thinking from Twynham west ridge, Crags left off pic, subsidiary ridge left middle distance, Anderson right off pic, ?Friars Alp prominent. It would have to be Jagungal behind then though it looks a bit close. Nice pic whereever it is.

could be right - I was trying hard to convince myself about the Jagungal/Friars Alp thing without being at all sure, but the background right mountain doesn't look like Bogong either (Nelse with Bogong off pic?)

It's the flat valley floor that is making it hard for me to place. Is there anywhere in NSW that looks out over pancake land.

Wherever it is, the setting sun is over the photographers right shoulder. If its sunset. Looking South to South East. If that helps.

South to South West. Which makes the Geehi valley a prime candidate, looking from the Western Faces of the Main Range. My first guess was from Alice Rawson looking West, South West. But the lower spurs running from the photographers vantage point are not congruent with that hypothesis.

What if it was the rising sun??
Sorry didn't see Graeme's post. It does look like sunset colors rather than sunrise.

Surprisingly, I don't think I've never seen the Island, it looked like Port Phillip & I knew there were some Islands near the mouth.

There might not be enough detail, I'll see how you get on, before I give any hints.

Yep, you lot got it. The shot is of Australia's steepest tow line - Rodway Tow at Mt Mawson. I reckon the nearby Mawson Tow has to have Australia's rockiest lift serviced ski slope.

While slope grooming has been banned by the greenies, I liked BLB's suggestion last year that if see a poor little rock out on its own you should move it closer to other rocks so it can have some company [IMG]

VSG. How come you only ever post photos of ACT as seem to know every inch of the Australian mountains?

Good question man. Have walked just about all ACT high points. Would be prob a decade since I did a proper walk in Victoria, or Tasmania. Old age. [IMG]

Every inch? no. Just an unnatural interest in all things alpine in Australia, I'd say, Bogong. Been a Wild subscriber since the early 90s, too. [IMG]

My older photos are all in boxes. Digital is so handy.

I didn't want to be too pedantic on a Monday arvo Bogong [IMG]

It was taken from the flat top of Cobberas No 1. Middle Peak is on the left, Cleft Peak in the centre, The Pilot behind Cleft Peak, with the Main Range in distance [IMG]

Well, the highest point is Mt Kosciuszko. I could see the zig-zag snowdrift on the side of it when I took the photo; if I zoomed in on the original photo (4000 x 3000 res) it may be visible [IMG]

I'd be guessing the apparent high point is to the right (south-east) of Kosci, given its closer. South Ramshead perhaps. Anyway, this is a bit of fun...

For the non-historians, Harry Power was Ned Kelly's mentor, and this lookout was from where he could see all the Victorian Police coming to get him.
