Re: Where is this? No10 Seconding JAM, looks like over Halls Gap looking towards the Wonderland area. Edit: Matches where I knew you to be most likely flying today too.
Re: Where is this? No10 Yup. Got some more photos dad's camera as we followed the range south for quite a few k's.
Re: Where is this? No10 While on the aerial phots - I may have posted this in one of the earlier threads, but it's a beautiful shot, so who cares!
Re: Where is this? No10 No it's not Bell Creek nor Geromimo. You're still in the right area. The clue is it's mainstream, ie popular. And I mean REALLY popular. JAM
Re: Where is this? No10 No posts for two days, so I'll offer a photo from a fairly recent trip to get the ball rolling aagin. It shouldn't be too hard because this is a fairly easily identified landmark. Edit. Yes I know the horizon isn't straight, I was hanging from a tree when I took the photo.
Re: Where is this? No10 You should have hung from a crooked tree them the horizon would have been straight.
Re: Where is this? No10 I'd say bottom end of tasman peninsula (eer, not storm point aah eer?) or out on maria island. Dont get basalt flutes in the sea like that anywhere else. Last time i was on maria i was 5 years old so i'm a little vague on landmark names.....Up late Bogong?
Re: Where is this? No10 The Island looks too far away to be hippolyte rock viewed from cape Huay, but my memory is foggy on that. Actually, it looks more like dauntless point looking out to black rock, or maybe cape fredric hendrick.
Re: Where is this? No10 Beeper's got it right. Cape Huay on the Tasman Peninsula. But the question is how the hell do you say it? I heard a local at Port Arthur pronounce it and it sounded like they were coughing up phelgm! The island 6 km away in the background is Hippolyte Rocks, so champion_michael's correct on that. Next photo please.
Re: Where is this? No10 D*mn, so close. I'll get it right one day and then find great delight in posting a Qld photo that will confuse all you southerners.
Re: Where is this? No10 to steep on both sides for that currawong. I'm pretty sure its Mt Bogong sticking out of the clouds in the distance. I guessing its taken from somewhere on the Mt Buffalo plateau.
Re: Where is this? No10 climberman, that shot of Wonboyne River is amazing! I'll see what I can dig up, I may have something - not hard to guess where at all, but interesting?
Re: Where is this? No10 I'm with Craig. The two spurs sticking out in our direction look a bit like T-Spur and Long Spur, and Mt Wills has plenty of boulders like those in the foreground. But then again, I'm not totally convinced, it could be something else entirely.
Re: Where is this? No10 my first (measly) effort... i'm more posting it to find out what the two 'things' in it are/why are they there - the post and crayfish shell. taken just after easter.
Re: Where is this? No10 Yes, Bogong from Wills. inigo montoya, your pole might be part of a snow course, which is a series of poles used to determine average snow depth. A lot of poles, widely spread with a range of aspects give a reasonably accurate average snow depth. This is used for predicting river flow when the snow melts, for power generation. From memory, there is one across the Spencers Creek valley though your picture looks more like the upper Snowy valley. As for the yabby, they live in holes in the ground. JAM
Re: Where is this? No10 Its in the valley between Seamans Hut and Mt Clarke. Post may be to measure snow depth - it looks similar to the spencers creek poles. Theres similar posts just down stream of Lake Cootaputumba and i saw guys on skidoos riding past them during august last year. The shell - farked if i know. An easter camper that forgot the poo tube. Would have scratched on the way out. Just down further you'll find this (excuse out of focus shot): Not sure what it is but at the time i thought it may be associated with the cloud seeding project. Would love to find out more.
Re: Where is this? No10 I'll have a go for Bogong. Bonus points for naming the ski.com member standing in the top right of photo. USed to be a frequent poster but has gone rather quiet of late.
Re: Where is this? No10 Go to some of the more remote untracked ranges in Tassie and if you hit a rare dry spell, the only water you will find is in yabby holes. Sounds gross, but they're quite clean and you soon get used to it
Re: Where is this? No10 My first impression of JAM's shot was bogong, but I couldn't reconcile the shape with a vantage point. I knew it wasn't buffalo. I haven't been up wills, and didn't realise the view would be so good. The profile of the west peak didn't seem right, but I've never seen that angle. Live and learn. Snow Bloweys shot could also be bogong, looking down the kiewa valley
Re: Where is this? No10 I've got enough egg on face for one night, I'll just sit quietly for a while methinks
Re: Where is this? No10 Western face of South Ramshead, looking towards Khancoban? (Looks like the Swampy Plain River in the background). No idea who the forum member is though.
