Re: Where is this? No10

I love looking through this thread - I was just telling hubby... there are so many beautiful places around and half of them are in my back yard! ( :p to the mexicans!) I think I might print them all out and give us places to visit over the next few years!

Nice pic JAM. Is that Mt Loch in the background? If so you'd be out the backside (east) of golden point somewhere.

I was on my own. Yellow katmanpoo tent. Someone wrote a friendly greeting on the snow at my front door.

Aiming to get down a few times. Living about 10hrs away now so regular short trips are out of the question. How about you?

I've just been playing with a couple of pics from that trip. This is the sou easter that came in the day before you guys got out there and blew most of the soft stuff away:

Looks like Rolling Grounds in the background maybe? Disappointment Spur in front?

right state - long way from wilderness area though. There is an identifying feature in the photo.

Re: Where is this? No10

I think this is taken from up above Dead Horse Gap looking over to the Ramsheads - you can see Thredbo on the RHS of the range. Picture is taken on the trail through to the Cascades a couple of kms from where it steers South from the Thredbo river

Re: Where is this? No10

I'd say it was taken from near the Cascade Hut track out towards the chimneys. The valley in the foreground is the Big Boggy (headwaters of the Crackenback) with the Ramshead range on the sky line.

I'm thinking somewhere on the road into the Budawangs. Yadboro Flats mid background?

Re: Where is this? No10

This could be way out - looks like Mt Jagungal from the North. If I am right, the rocky outcrop is the Western side of the Mountain

inigo... someone's been catching planes from Melb to Cbr. :)

Bogong massif in the foreground, Spion K further out, Falls creek and the Fainters, to Hotham and Feathertop in the middle distance.

Too many trees for Jagungal. I was thinking the Pretty Plain/Wheelers area, but can't seem to get everything aligned properly

I tend to agree now. But you can see where I am coming from.. an old pre fires shot of Jagungal...

I couldn't write to the forums yesterday arvo, some sort of malfunction.

It's not the big J, but it is in KNP... Eastern KNP.

No doublet. Info on Blackjack and Manjar mountains can be found in the Geehi Club book "Snowy Mountains Walks".

Jagungal was also known as "the big Bogong" and Jagungal itself has had old variations, Jargunal was one.

Re: Where is this? No10

Close enough VSG, it is Kalkite Mountain.

Actually Kalkite Gap was the subject in this photo, and it is at the far end of the valley clearing. From there Kalkite Creek falls to Lake Jindabyne. The creek and the clearing formed an old stock route from Jindabyne to the higher ground of Snowy Plains in the early grazing days.

The photo was taken from the powerline track that runs from Burrungubugge track head to Gungarlin River.

This pic was taken from the Snowy Plains looking towards Kalkite Gap, it is delightful walking country.
