Massive clue: It’s closest town sounds very similar to Sahoro and it’s not too far from Sahoro either.

    Winner

A good 500 vert metres on that mountain and the one behind it (nishi-nupukaushi-nupuri) offer some aesthetic lines in the avalanche paths and drive up accessibility, but unfortunately in my experience don’t experience a lot of snowfall - being so far east and in the rain shadow of the larger mountains around tokachi / Daisetsu and it gets really windy there too, but everywhere has its days, especially if it only sees a handful of ski tracks between snowfalls.

Good info there oreo. Is there any good north facing tree skiing on the other side of the mountain?

A relatively easy ski tour between two ski fields in NZ.

Cheeseman area it is oreo. Had a nice day skiing at Cheeseman, then had a quick tour along the range back to my accommodation at Broken River (others drove the rental car back for me).

    Over to you.

As for north tree skiing from my previous photo, I haven't done so - it's pretty dense.

Will accept route name or mountain name, both pictures, same mountain

You're correct. The mountain (and hut) is Balfour. The Balfour high-col is considered the crux of the traverse just because it's often poor vis up and over the col with crevasse danger. The traverse is actually pretty flat and dull, but it's a classic, so you know, gotta do it. I'll try to include some others in our little game of pass the ball, I'm pre-emptively out for the next round.

Correct. We were on the ridge behind and to the west of the currently closed Niimi Onsen. For some delightful reason they are still clearing the road out to the Onsen complex. Perhaps the snow plow crews like to tour here. Anyway it's very nice terrain and over the course of two days we only saw one other group. Don't tell anyone but it's well worth a visit if you are in the area.

The photo below shows the completely inadequate snow pack in early March in this area.

Nope. The Kokanee glacier cabin is cool though, flushing toilets, hot water from the tap, electricity and wifi, but no large crevasse areas like in the above photo (at least when I was there)

Yes, that's some good detective work. The peak in the middle of my photo is a really nice tour, Mt Albright. It's slightly on the right in your google earth shot.

Here's the final boot to the top of Albright.

Absolutely amazing views (that's phelps lake in the middle foreground) from the Teton national park peaks.

This photo was only taken 4 or 5 days after the last BIG avalanche/storm cycle and in the first days someone had already ridden the Grand Teton (which is to the right of my original photo i.e. north). I am constantly amazed at the level of risk a new generation of ski mountaineers are willing to live with. In the past the Grand might have been ridden a couple of days a year, if at all. Now it is being ridden as soon as the weather goes blue after a storm! Mother nature often has something to say about this and it was a little sobering as we drove back to Wilson that we saw a helicopter landing near the trailhead picking up a body bag from someone who died up on the middle Teton that day.

Not icefall, icefall is also a cool location with the satellite huts and everything. I was tossing up which hut to post and I almost picked both icefall (or mons etc) and Kokanee. Would have been a rather short round.

Bill Putnam or Fairy Meadows hut (clue: two names). You’re right. Congratulations.

The second clue was going to be
This popular hut is hard to book. Getting a booking is like winning the lottery. (You need to win the $5 to enter, Alpine Club of Canada, booking lottery to have an opportunity to book)
