I'm possibly heading to Thredbo for the first time Sunday and the forecast is for gale strength NW/W winds, where is a good place to head to to ski ?

I'd say, powder bowl/boundary riders/just beyond the boundary rope, Waimea (maybe) and protected treed areas, like bushranger, funnelweb or possibly some places in GCB. Cannonball might be good too.

The short of it is, just like everywhere else, you want to go where the wind isn't hitting directly (which is also the areas the wind will be pushing the snow to). Hopefully the cruiser/kosci chair won't be on windhold for you.

Pretty much everywhere in Thredbo is protected from NW winds. T-Bras up high will probably close though and kosi may also if its really bad. Takes alot to close snowgums and gunbarrel though.

Trees under the top half of Snowgums chair were awesome when I was there on a windy day last year.

One of my favs too. If its windy go the lee gullies from as high as you can get, Micheals, Bowl/boundary, Bluff, Cannonball. Into the trees for visibiltys! The skiing down low might just be fantastic too, under Gunbarrel.
