With the map in the right hands you could figure it out based on when certain buildings were burnt down or built. I dont have it on me, maybe Rick Ross da boss could post a scan or piccy?

As you say other events may help date the map. It still shows 2 buildings at the Hotel Kosciuszko site and the Hotel apparently burnt down in 1951. Interestingly the news report I found said the Hotel would be rebuilt further up the road towards the Kosciuszko Chalet as it was no longer on the snowline.

Yep. You, cold_wombat and the other droolers are desperately searching for explorers named Colonel Interceptor and Captain Pretty Valley.

    Give me strength.

What a load of nonsense. What on earth prompted you to make that up?

Captain Pretty Valley was Colonel Interceptors aid. They were known to dig the odd trench together, if ya know what I mean.

Perisher had a few lifts sponsored by car makers like (Land Rover) Freelander and (Subaru) Forester, so when I was told the Interceptor chairlift was named after the Jensen Interceptor, it made sense. But it appears I was misled. :goose:

I will need to investigate just who this Colonel Interceptor character was. o_O

You seem to be a little confused about the names of lifts, and want clarification that every lift in Perisher was not named after an explorer. People with enough neurons to form a synapse will probably work out the unlikelihood of that possibility all by themselves.

Did you think there might be a Capt Pretty Valley? I wouldn't be surprised.

A delivery van just arrived and I was presented with the Hotel Kosci book I ordered last week. :woohoo:

It cost a bit more than the Wendy Cross book, Australian skiing: the first 100 years, but I reckon it will still be worth it.

Please share the info when you can. Years ago our neighbour in Sydney told us of skiing at the Hotel Kosciuszko when he was younger.

Now you are just trying to be unpleasant. I'll ask again - Did you think there might be a Capt Pretty Valley? Try to be polite.

It would have been Private Pretty Valley. With that speed and reliability there would have been no promotions for him.

@Legs Akimbo can you recall if the Duplex in Centre Valley at Perisher had a name? I don't recall one.

Definitely I think you mean Front Valley (?) as Blaxland, Wentworth and Lawson are still in Centre Valley and I think it was Bass and Flinders but stand to be corrected

And you're all forgetting about Major Carpet. He didn't do much, but by God the wind never stopped him.

I'm a super old fart (or at least my ex, who started skiing at Perisher in about 1963, is). 3 and 4 is what she, and thus I, called them.

I remember Mitchell as number 1 and still call it that today although the lifts were renumbered at some point but the Duplex was always just the Duplex to us. However I found an old trail map and confirm it was Bass and Flinders.

Yes, several maps with run names. Although only a brief passing mention of Sponar's 1960 poma-lift and no mention of the probable 1949 tow. So it's a bit like the rather similar Webb and Adams book on the Buffalo Chalet in regard to mostly neglecting ski lifts. :(

I could spend hours transcribing interesting things from the book on to this forum, but that would take more time than I have to spare. However, I might do something about ski runs IF I get bored this evening, but that would be a one-off, I can't do that for everything in the book.
