Flew over the southern alps Saturday and then Tuesday. Looking grim round Canterbury.

Temple Basin have pushed their opening to 30 July. Which seems optimistic.

Does Whaka have trouble with high winds when it is snowing. The high winds seem to shut the lifts & mountain done...

TC was very fine yesterday, and due to delayed opening, we skied Cardrona today with 20+cm. Lots of fun indeed, especially in the Chutes early.

TC tomorrow, hopefully with a bit more fresh and clear skies .... hopefully!

Nice. I haven't been at Cardrona in conditions that good before. Its usually my 'no new snow' choice. I suppose that 50cm day was the 28th?

Proves to me that for ski-tourist, you don't need a good season to have a good trip. You just need to book in late Jan/early Aug and get lucky.

Gutted I missed the 28th but we got powder days on 30th and 3rd

Just returned on Saturday after a few days on the big four hills down in NZ Sth isle.

All four had good - great covers - TC was probably the standout, although on the weekends they seem to struggle with crowds (shuttle busses from various points on access Rd to base). And the chutes were well covered. In less than fresh snow, Cardi is the better choice. My last ski was Friday 12th, so my comments might be a bit out of date. Gut feel: depth no problem, could be fresher. ⛷ enjoy!

I'll second that. We skiied Mackenzie and Wanaka 8 - 16 August and had an excellent time even though it didn't really snow at all in that time. Must write up a report sometime.
