@chicski it's probably fair to say that if you are yet to experience the Business Class product on any of the QF fleet or partner airlines that you will have a very enjoyable experience regardless of seat type/cabin style. You will be very well looked after.

The biggest problem will be that you'll probably get a taste for it and struggle travelling down the back again.

    Enjoy!

    I cope!

Would rather travel econ than not go at all!

I tend to book PE/Business class cause i realise i have more than i need. Typically only get one way though.

Could have gone Business to Tokyo last time - choose PE for both YK and I. Aren't I nice!

I chose economy x 3 to USA last year instead of business for me. I win in the nice stakes!

spouse has leg issues and doesn’t cope well with long flights in cramped seats
a few years ago she discovered travel brokers who on-sell business class frequent flier seats and we’ve had a couple of trips using those, as well as some others purchased with our own ff points
in between I’ve had various trips in economy without difficulty
I see being able to fly anywhere as a privilege, so not complaining

I find the actual seat to be more important than the layout. Some Business seats are not particularly wide, and sometimes no wider than the economy seat on the same plane. I am not a large guy, 178cm, 72Kg, I just like to get a bit more side on than the average passenger at times.
Check https://www.seatguru.com/ to look at different layouts, seat pitch and seat widths for most carriers, this might help nail down a decision.

Seatguru is usually OK for US based airlines, but is often way out of date or just plain wrong for others. Despite complaints for years, and many reports of corrections being given to them, nothing seems to change.

It is the biggest problem. Showers in the sharp end of Emirates A380 are the duck's nuts. As is the service. Wifey struggled on return NYC flight in Q economy. Had the points, alas no seats.

Right on with the first paragraph.

However I'm kind of glad that my last Business experience on ANA, a self proclaimed 5 star airline, was crap. Seeing it was using up about to become worthless Aeroplan points I'm not feeling too cheated by it but OTOH it means I will be Ok with travelling down the back for cash, but with some thought as to what to go for. So for example avoid 3-4-3 B777s on long haul flights and if one last trip to Nth America can be put together then what's looking worthwhile is Delta, still with 3-3-3 on their B777s but paying a bit extra for some extra legroom. Delta Comfort, i.e a few extra inches of legroom for maybe.

I think the thing with that weird BA arrangement was that the arrangement was staggered, as well as half facing backwards so one faced the other person almost eyeball to eyeball or face to face and that was the issue rather than being rear facing. OTOH I found United's old rear facing seats to give me the best sleep, reason being that the aircraft flies with a nose up attitude of maybe 5degrees so that a front facing (or sideways seat) has your head below your feet making for a slight upside down feeling whereas a rear facing seat has the bed flat but one's head is just a tad higher, so much better. No facing the person facing forward but rather having to hop across one's neighbour or being hopped across, a much better tradeoff. I believe that their old configuration has gone. That said there was a hesitancy about being in a rear facing seat not realising the benefit and on one United flight a couple of passengers delayed the departure for 30 mins as they were aggrieved to find their seats were rear facing.

I'm not a superfrequent flyer- but maybe 1 or 2 longhauls and a couple of Trans Tasmans and 2 or 3 domestics a year
Don't fly economy much these days on flights over 2 hours but have never flown in an A380!!!
My usual hauler to Europe is Cathay- and did enjoy their new A350 business cabin last year- was very fresh and shiny
Anyway I'm off to Hungary in October with SIngapore so get to trial the A380 at last
    Quite looking forward to it

I had a flight in a Cathay a350 last year - it was very new
the seats were at least as good as an Etihad 787 which I flew earlier in the year

Was a bit better than economy, more comfy seats but not really what you would call comfortable

Your a higher flyer than me
That said I’ve always wanted to join the mile high club
But a mile is t very high, I’d be worried the plane would crash into a mountain while I’m in bliss, which would ruin the bliss!

There aren't too many mountains to worry about killing yourself whilst getting your jollies in Australia unless you're in a small Cessna at 5280 feet in selected areas.
That said achieving your jollies in a 172 is doable over the training area South of Archerfield. :)

4A in a Q A380 allowed greater dexterity than the Cessna. Ruined only when the FA suggested wifey should go back to her suite. Seat belt compliance apparently. Job done fortunately..

I love the spaciousness and front lounge area of the 380, but the new 787 suite is truly fantastic. Great layout/features and hands down the best sleep I have ever had on a jet. When in bed mode particularly, it's a huge improvement over the old skybed. In the near term, 787 would get my vote if I had the choice.

When the 380s are refitted with the new suites, my preference will swing back in favour of the whale though. Such an epic beast to cruise in.

The 353 day timing never use to be limited by status...that must have changed recently.

Qatar by far the best business I have flown, then probably CX, then SQ. As others have said, QF A380 is very dated now and a step below all the regulars to the states such as Virgin, American, Delta and United. So target the Dreamliner if you have to stick with QF.

Not sure where that came from? I had a look, and my wife and I can see exactly the same dates, out to 12/3/19, even though we are different status. My wifes account is bronze, but she can see those dates. I am not sure why @chicski can only see dates in January

There are flights @robbo mcs but they aren’t QF business flights. They are Cathay or AA or Emirates. The QF ones are economy only.

Just did melb - lax in Qantas dreamliner. Business was fine for me. Good service and food and flat bed. I managed to properly sleep for 8 hours. Also the new one world lounge at lax is awesome! Such good food.

Over the past few years I've flown in B747, B787, B777 (200's & 300's), A380, A330 and A340. I haven't noticed ANY difference in cabin pressure & I have bad ears (have to wear airplanes ear plugs on takeoff and landing). The BIGGEST difference I have noticed that Boeings are far noisier than Airbus.

Would you actually notice the difference between 6000 and 8000 feet?
I think the benefits would be happening at a non cogniscent level but having gone up and down to Japan 20+ times in the last 15 years I felt way better after travelling in the 787 than the A330 and 767
Same flight times, same seats, same legroom so I put it down to cabin pressure
    I may be wrong

I do doubt it has much effect. The difference is more likely 1500'/500m and perhaps not the entire flight.
But if ya feel better that's what counts maybe it does.
But with flight times pushing up towards 20hrs, everything counts! Passenger's should lobby for cabin humidifiers - that's where you'll notice a mega improvement. But, they cost.

Good luck getting my wife into an economy seat for 20 hours. Kid has already been informed his inheritance is going down the toilet on business class flights. His choice to live in NYC.

I agree the 737 and 747 and not very well sound proofed but I always find the B787 outstandingly quiet and comfortable, even seated towards the rear. That being said my last ride on the B737 in Row 3 was far peaceful then anything in the last 20 rows on an A330. Wing seats on an A320 would have to be the worst with the constant whine from the A/C.

I wasonce in the very last row of an A380 and found it very comfortable SYD to LAX. No queue for the lav with the lav being back through the curtain rather than just behind the last row in Y. With just me and a lovely young thing sharing 3 seats helped of course :).

Having discovered the joy of beds for sleeping on planes some years ago, you won't find me in cattle class for any flight over about 4 hours. Now if the A$ would only appreciate back to where it was a while back when it was above the US$, I would still be redeeming my bought miles for not much more than an economy fare for a business class seat.

Still keeping an eye on flights, they are released up to early Feb now. Couple more weeks!
Just as aside you can now book JAL FF flights on the Qantas website.
