Can anyone drop a pin to exactly where this is please
Suspect spelling on the cam image is incorrect too. Whiskey v's Whisky
That depends on whether the camera is Irish or Scottish.
Not sure about that one..
Whisky Flat is near Brandy Creek.....Both are sign posted on the GAR between HH and DP
Whisky Flat on Google Earth is here:
I had a good dig, but couldn't turn up anything definitive. There is a site, www.keywhite.com, that shows a *very* similar image (Whisky Flat Solar Research Site), but the last capture was in July 2019.
I can't make out enough information from the partial advertising sign to assist in the location, and Google Maps doesn't have any streetview of that section of the GAP.
I would suspect that it is somewhere relevant to the biathlon centre, but other than that I don't know.
Is that near the biathlon range?
Let's ask them!
Before posting here I did some Googling and all that returned, both with general search and maps search, was Whisky (no 'e') Flat accommodation - revealing (what I already knew) that Google is now 90% commercial search and the serendipitous knowledge results of yore are gone
Here you go @Richard:
Walking trail shows up in OSM but not Google Maps.
Nice one @cold wombat @Jellybeans
I've grouped the Whisky* Flat cam with Dinner Plain but it turns out it's closer to Hotham than DP.
I think I'll move both cams into the Hotham grouping and be done with any notion of DP as a separate area.
(Perisher got really upset when I grouped the Wilson Valley cam with Perisher because it's below the snowline)
*as suspected, maps shows it as a no 'e' Whisky
Its the last carpark for hotham when you take the car down and get on the bus
And fair enough too, leave all those below snowline cams to Thredbo
Going by the mention of solar research on the image, I'm pretty sure it is on the solar panels whose shadow you can see in Google maps:
And which can see be seen more clearly in Mapshare:
This is 100m or so north of the tunnel under the road.(which is just of the bottom edge of this image)
I XC ski that route every year in August from JB Hut to Wire plain Shelter hut and back . Whiskey Flat is near the Biathlon range and it is close to the GAR and car park.
It has special appeal to me and I am pleased that this snow cam. exists.
Yep, that agrees with what I was told by PM on twitter.
