Whistler isn’t cheap but can be done cheaply if you book early but unfortunately not always possible.
This year we booked in October and it hurt.
Year before 12 months ahead and it was ok.
We search via the usual sites then check the hotels own site.
We book only places that can be canceled then watch everything for sales.
This year we stayed at the Pinnacle as it was cheapest we could find.
    Single room $180ish
    Queen with sofa bed $220
That’s for this month, That’s as cheap as Mansfield motel and cheaper than Jindabyne but unsure on availability.

Yeah it’s 40% off most places if you booked by August

Hi there, getting in very early and looking for some advice skiing at Whistler in 2020 from Australia. Basically looking for accomodation within walking distance to lifts. Best option for bang for buck as covering cost for my student son! Would consider short free shuttle bus ride also with option to walk into town. Book through agent or organise trip independently? Any other tips re flights/ski tickets would be appreciated. Also if anyone has doubled up there trip and skied Banff. Options to get there. Fly/bus/train/drive or don’t bother.

Start with https://www.alluradirect.com for accomodation for Whistler. It looks like there are some really good rates for 2020 just from a quick glance at January dates. There are shuttle buses all around the village if you are staying a bit out of the centre of town.

Don't bother with an agent, with accommodation and flights booked you've done most of the work. Apart from that, everyone here will have plenty of advice if you ask :)

Banff and Whistler are a long way away from each other. Wouldn't really advise switching unless you're in Canada for more than a couple of weeks, but each to their own. You'd need to allow a full (long) day for the transfer. If you do though it's going to be easiest to fly into Calgary from Vancouver, and then take a bus to Banff.
