Because the season hasn't started due to climate change.
Because Al Gore said so, and he knows more than you do.

Because winter lift tickets cost so much, winter is being skipped his year to allow people to save up for next year. Summer activities are all go.

Ahhh, so that's why Thredbo is giving away free access to the leisure centre for anyone carrying a valid lift pass..... [IMG]

    Why?

Because it's still so early in the "season".

    Ponder this...

Australia is one of a very few countries that calculate the seasons from the start of the month. Everywhere else they use the solstaces and equinoxes. June 22 SHOULD be the first day of winter - NOT 3 weeks into "winter".

This translates as: IF the seasons were calculated properly here, we'd still only be FOUR DAYS into winter, and nobody would expect the mountains to be covered in snow 4 days into winter. (And that's why serious snow people don't make bookings before mid-July)

Another part of the problem is that the Queen's Birthday weekend marks the official "start" of the season - again, well before the rotation of the globe says winter is ready for us - and how often is there skiable snow, (or ANY snow), on the QBW? Not often, but then you wouldn't expect there to be anyway.

What we need to do is somehow get the opening weekend shifted to the first weekend in July - then we'd have PLENTY of snow at the start of the ski season!

Performance anxiety - Winter has gotten cold feet due to all of the speculation.....so STFU already and be patient. If not knowing is absolutely killing you, plan your next ski trip to somewhere where the snow is guaranteed to be up to your armpits!

If you a QLDer....no its not going to snow, ever. Give up skiing, stay in QLD and hit the beach

So that finally this year we can do that trip to the Flinders Ranges in the cooler months we wanted to do for years without feeling we are missing out on anything worthwhile on the slopes.

I've found it !! I found where all our snow went. Now the question is how do we get it back ?

[IMG] Well this picture says it all. Matt Alcock in the base area this morning. Turoa has the biggest snow base at this time of year since 1992.
Turoa currently has an average base of 151cm.

I am a little concerned about the state of Friday Flat at present. While the upper slopes are starting to get some snow and snowmaking is sticking, FF is looking more and more depressing. As this is likely to be the most popular area during the school holidays, one wonders what things are going to be like in a weeks time.

Last year it was dumping right now and I remember Mt Perisher opening. I wish I could get some of 2007's early snow.

I'm going to the USA, but I don't think they'll have a good season following the outstanding season they had this last season.

It's a shame as I will have spent a season there in 2007 (bad season) and then again in 2009 (won't possibly rival this year). So both years I'll be meeting locals saying "you should have been here last year"

Snow is actually nature's form of masturbation and has reached a form of menopause/middle-age crisis. All will be resolved in time.

Medication (i.e man-made snow) in the next few days will help the situation before the inevitable ejaculation from the sky in July/August.

This lack of snow directly coincides with Australia earning the top place as the World's Fattest Nation...

Now nothing will fall from the sky, cuz God has no reason to bat off.

I hope 4 your sake you do get some snow, season 07/08 was simply sensational in Colorado :) I counted 20+ days of 6 inches or more this season, so if you get that number then you have every right to be pleased :)

I'm not really concerned. I've had plenty of powder days, both in the USA and elsewhere. I don't really mind what the season will throw at me. If you're somewhere for long enough you get good conditions. For instance, in 2006/07 I got plenty of powder days including a memorable 40+ inch day (and plenty of 20" days), despite it's rather forgetable seasonal summary.

So many aussies skiing in Japan this year had so much snow, the snow gods figgured we had already had our share..

It will come, July 15 looks like a season opener and enough to give us a great cover.

    Want snow, book in August.
