Why didn’t you start a thread called “hidden powder stashes in the Hakuba Valley”?

Been a lot of discussion about epic and MC here and the final verdict seems to be the presence of so many Americans in niseko greater region is wholly and solely because of MC and Epic advertising so heavily. Many players have both and are using both to spend time at both Niseko and Rusutsu.

Wheels up on Friday and we never considered changing! For a girl whose first skiing was on the dry ski slope in the Cairngorms even a poor Japanese winter will be marvelous. Each time I've been to Hakuba and Shiga Kogen I've said I'll see the snow monkeys when it's a wind hold day or the like. I've not seen them yet so maybe it's this year. I also want to extend my vending machine experience so I'm sure I'll find plenty to do!

If I did that, they wouldn't be “hidden powder stashes in the Hakuba Valley”!!! ;)

Coz the Aussies keep getting the message that Niseko is an Aussie bogan destination and if they wanna be ahead of the curve they should go to Honshu LOL
The Americans think they’ve discovered a new booming paradise ;)

Yes, also had that discussion. I notice most of the people from my plane didn't transfer to domestic flights.

And my bus up had NO Aussie accents on it.

The tide has changed. Niseko is no longer Kula of Japan.

    Opps! Snap.

But yes, the Americans were very happy with the quality of snow. Noting that is was 'supposedly' a low season. "How crazy would it be if it was a normal' season"

We are going, tomorrow! Last night feeling a little flat about the huge amount of rain predicted in Nozawa over the coming week and discussed options for day trips (Shiga, Matsumoto, etc). But reading Sandy's prediction lifted our spirits and looking at Snow Japan this morning, much of that rain is now looking like snow! However it turns out, it will be amazing! Wheeeee......

I wouldn't say there is a tonne of Aussies in Hakuba either.. probably less so than previous seasons.
    Massively less scands.
Rest of the nationalities seem same same.

    Wonder if that's the difference?

Thats correct. It used to be MC/Ikon though.
Moved over to epic last year or so.
The americans i've met so far were all Ikon riders.
    Aussies...all epic pass users .

So pretty much corroborates that Aussies aren't flying north. Was your flight full?

Epic pass has been great for getting US guests into Hakuba. Last year it really helped with Feb bookings and this year we have had several US groups already stay citing that as the main reason.

I traded Hokkaido for Myoko this year for what (I) think were the right reasons. It's backfired snow wise so far but for so many other reasons this thread aims to remind us of - we're still here smiling (I've got a 16 year old in tow). We scraaaapped our way through yesterday at Sugi and yeah probably bad decision but today we did a cool little local option train/musuem, long walk, local lunch etc. My son is reading stretched out on the couch in a pretty cozy lounge area not god knows whatting on digital thisyorthaty. We hiked a ridge on our first day and it was quite pfffpllppttt on the way down but we laughed our way up and down it. We had a great meal in a tidy restaurant tonight next door, food presented meticulously .. and it was .. only .. us.
The powder might come this week before we go. I do hope for that. But I'm super happy w the trip so far and what we can make of it whatever comes our way.

It also depends on where you skied last. I had the worst snow in Chile in August so current conditions in Furano for my trip next week look bloody epic
