Sunny now in Canberra.
Yeah, bridge is 5m above old bridge, and is running at 7.7m at the local gauge.
The bridge was apparently designed at a 1:20 / 5% return.
Some flooding predicted for the Moruya as well
I can't say that we have had all that much rain here, since this time yesterday we have added 10mm, a total of 21mm for the event, and most of that has been since about 1pm.
If you were to believe the TH radar you would think it is raining heavily here being under a yellow/orange radar pattern, yet I would think that it is just a moderate rate at best.
Looks like a pair of small lows approaching Sydney from the South.
Shoalhaven River at Warri is recording 124,915ML/day that's absolutely insane for a river of that catchment size.
Boom! Sydney catchment
Fair chance Oberon will have more new snow on the ground than Perisher at this rate.
Under the yellow/orange/red area now and it is nothing more than moderate rain.
Under the same colours last night during the brief storm, it was torrential.
Starting to get heavier now but not what I would call heavy rain.
Damn, it's cold though. 10.2 with a biting wind.
might make the Hunter over night or tomorrow, hope so looking good.
Yeh, I reckon you'll get a few mm's at worst, maybe 10 - 15 if good.
+3.3C at Armidale and precip accumulating RN.
Looks like Frontogensis.
Some storms developing out to sea...
Bring it on I am getting excited
Some pics from Queanbeyan river. I don't know much about river flooding but I'd guess +2m above normal levels. Note the tree behind the boy in pic 1 well under water, and it would normally be another 15m walk or so to the edge. In pic 2 the foreground would normally be exposed flats.
7.5c here in Glenbrook (200m ASL) and moderate rain for the last hour.
1.6c at Katoomba so would be a heavy "wintery mix" up there no doubt. Higher peaks out on the CT should be seeing snow and further south around Shooters Hill it would be dumping. Looking forward to reports.
This morning out on the OP
+3.3C at Armidale and precip accumulating RN.

Some sleety hail around midday on east side out of town but mostly scuddy showers and sunny breaks today. Snow further up the hill may have been possible earlier today. Nice day for restocking firewood. 12mm for this event so far.
Line of showers moving through in about an hour by the look of the radar. That's got sleet to 1000m written all over it IMO.
+10.3C at the airport. +3.9C App Temp.
Bloody chilly for Sydney @ 15:30hrs
After seeing the temps and the amount of precip headed to the OP. Couldn't resist going for a snow chase. Couple of cms on-top of mount Trickett. currently at Oberon with light dusting and snowfall continuing
That beats BoM's snow above 1200m call for today.
CTs this morning.
Last one is shooters hill, first two Mt trickett. Next time will head to shooters first, better snow accumulation, the pic was taken 2 hours later at shooters, after a bit of rain.
I wasn’t expecting snow when I started the thread, so snow on the Central and Northern Tablelands is a nice surprise.
Meanwhile, the rain rate’s picked up here. There’s a red mass on the radar to the South heading this way. Totals in the Sydney basin range from a couple of millimetres in the NE to over 25 mm in the South. It’s also quite chilly, with OH and some other Sydney sites dipping below 10°.

Educated guess - I think about 10 km nw of Armidale so climbing to 1100m. 100m higher than me and closer to the DIvide.
New line of thunderstorms popping up SE of Kurnell, on the latest Radar frame.
Seen some pretty legit stationary waves in the various creeks going under the federal highway
W0nkey Would Go.
the first of the rain band looks to be about to start here, bring the red from Sydney up here.
ASCAT pass puts 25-30 knots on the Sou-Coast waters @17:07 hrs local
Lucas Heights picking up 4mm/10 mins rates.
Terry Hills Doppler Wind image just now. Someting’s approaching Botany Bay:
EDIT: Mount Boyce on 1° with precipitation. That to me suggests Blue Mountains snow, a decent amount of it with about 5 mm in the last couple of hours.
Those colours on the radar have actually come to fruition eventually.
Rain has been very heavy for the past hour.
Mount Vic wintery mix according to obs here:
Armidale snow shower in ~50 mins IMO.
Syd Olympic sitting on +9.3°C and picked up 8mm in last hour.
Take a moment to consider: This cold pool originated as a cut off in SW WA, a week ago tonight.
AXS-C on point.
Bellambi knocking over a tonne. Kiama a few km/h off it.
I'm a km from the beach. Winds are strong. However not crazy levels.
I hear ya.
+1 not excited by the trees above our house.
I imagine it's fair whistling up that part of the coast.
Blocking out thinking about it by having the tv on loud.
so ... in punter-speak
is that 1 in 20 year event.
and 5% likelyhood ?
Yes - we have tended to move away from describing as a ‘One in whatever’ to a percentage as it’s really that there’s an ‘x%’ chance of a given event happening in any given year. I think the values in the Aust Rainfall and Runoff have recently been updated.
The temperature at Sydney Airport shot up by 4.4° in 20 minutes as the wind turned from Westerly to Southerly from 6:45 PM. The rain band is clearing Sydney on it's way to the Hunter.
Wind really picking up some of the strongest gusts of the year, Bellambi (usual culprit) notching a 106km/h at 6:29pm. Gusting at 78km/h here.
started here now sw of cessnock not heavy but big drops
