Wind really picking up some of the strongest gusts of the year, Bellambi (usual culprit) notching a 106km/h at 6:29pm. Gusting at 78km/h here.
The thing with Bellambi AWS. It's so so exposed.
Sits further east than any terrain for at least 10kms.
It's also right beside one of the best waves in Australia.... If not the world.

It's als

Just got home, glad to see Blackheath getting a dusting while driving past. Shocked at how windy it got back at home with leaves and branches on road. Temps has skyrocketed up with the wind. Feels really weird to me.

No sure if we are in the sweet spot of the Low out here in the North West Sydney - Rouse Hill, currently experiencing sustained gales with 90km gusts - which is unusual for here - normally the coast gets these winds and we are lucky to get 60km winds. Huge Squalls.

They're lucky to not have started works on the new bridge in Nowra, I guess.
they actually have set up camp and started some prelim ground works.
Also saw them placing a few buoys out middle of the river when I went thru on Thursday morn.
wonders if they still there now !

65mm in Glenbrook since Friday from this event, that's a pretty good drop for August which is traditionally our driest month along with July.

It looks like it’s clearing in Sydney. After some showers about 90 minutes ago there are large patches of blue sky and there have been a couple of sunny breaks. Rainfall totals in the 24 hours to 9:00 around Sydney vary from about 20 mm in the North to over 60 mm in the South, with 35 mm in Chatswood and 31.4 mm at OH. Yesterday’s OH max finished at 14.9° a little before 9:00 - the reset strikes again. It was only the second sub-15 at OH this year.

The rain band is now up in the Hunter. Stormy will be pleased by that.

We're going from sun to strong showers on the wind here in Wollongong.
Will have to check out the ocean a little bit later.
Should be wild.
I wonder how Wamberal is faring....

After last summer i vowed never to complain about rain again... is rain , is good.

Last summer I remember distinctly being in Melbourne the week before Christmas. 44c strong northerly gusts. My eyes were literally drying out within 2 minutes of being outside, I couldn't walk directly into the wind. You could see the plants dying right in front of your eyes. There was of course also the insidious smell and sight of smoke in the air, a preview of what was to come in just two short weeks at New Years. I remember driving back to my motel, it was so hot that the electronics started to fritz, my lights and wipers came on automatically and my radar cruise control didn't want to play ball.

I certainly will take rain and cold over that every day of the week plus twice on Sundays.

Was interesting to watch the rain radar last night in Canberra. Kept looking like heavy bands of showers were going to come over, but like some magic invisibility shield, Canberra only ended up with 5mm on Sunday, whereas a few kms east of Queanbeyan, it was over a 100mm

Warragamba dam has risen to 89.6%. Inflows rivers are still rising so it may get much higher.
90% by now and so needs 200 GL to spill. The Wollondilly at Jooriland is passing 127 GL per day so that's about 40 hours till the FSL is reached. Oddly, no flood warnings for Nepean/ Hawkesbury yet . And Nepean Dam is already 0.5 m over its spillway.

Depends what sort of flow is behind the peak in the Wollondilly. Flow has to stay above the current level for 24hrs for the flow rate to result as accumulation. If if only peaks at that rate for a few hours then the total flow is not the dailly rate.

Warra has risen 0.8 m in 12 hours and plenty more upstream. Wingecarribee at Greenstead about to peak. Catchment saturated and Wollondillly level should only fall slowly. PS blue graph is faulty but red OK

Looking at the 10 day outlook is promising for some more dam filling. Another complicated setup of lows and highs in weird spots.

This is Oallen Ford this morning!

Via some old kayaking friends I got shared a video of the Shoalhaven Gorge, downstream of Oallen Ford from someone who has a property above the gorge out that way. The entire thing is washed out with monstrous waves, it looks like one of those epic North American rivers that drain big icecaps out of the interior.
