The trail riders who invited me to share a cuppa from their cherished WW1 billy next to the Cobungra river at the bottom of Paling Spur are the people who spring to mind when I think of High Country Horsemen.

    Not Phil Maguire.

(This was made all the more poignant because I had just observed first hand the significant damage the brumbies had caused around theYoung’s Hut area....)

Reading some of the comments left by feral horse lovers on the VNPA Facebook page, they seem to be convinced that a new ski resort is being planned / built in Victoria.

I'm amazed that I have seen zero discussion of this on this forum, yet apparently it's common knowledge?

They are confused. John Barilaro of Eden Monaro made an announcement last week about turning Jindabyne in to an Aspen like mountain town. There is funding going toward an upgraded airport and a few other things.

These pro feral horse people played Chinese whispers with that information and it has now become larger than life. Obviously Barilaro and that funding has nothing to do with VIC. Even a new ski resort in NSW isn’t happening but that hasn’t stopped the truth getting in the way of a good beat up.

We can hardly rely on this lot to tell the truth can we?

the majority of these people have never even been to the mountains and wouldn’t even be able to point the Bogong high plains or Kiandra out on a map, yet here they are advocating for a feral animal.

What a ****ed up world we love in eh?

This guy has lost it. I really think he wants some kind of civil war or something. That last paragraph is insane.

So does remote isolation with no women and enforced reliance on your fellow convict to survive an incredibly harsh regimen, and that's just the guards.

But we digress too far from topic.

I seem to recall something of RR about Mt Buffalo. All the horses are being removed to make way for a ski resort there was a comment I think. So it seems Phil is not stepping down now. Just played the sympathy vote. Must have something to hide if he was going to walk away before anything went to print. In a Trump like manner he will just call fake news.

In any normal year we'd be into the second tent thread, deep into how much snow will fall, what new gear have we purchased but in this most chaotically bizarre year we're discussing feral-frigging-horses and convict sex.

Maybe Mr RR is about to discover once something is on the internet, it is there forever. French will probably have screenshots and there is always the "Way Back Machine" archive. I'm sure all his female supporters would love to see what he says about women voting...

Really? I was thinking more "contempt of court", what with the whole "if they rule in our favour then Parks will be forced to obey, but if not we'll ignore the ruling and obstruct any cull by any means necessary".

I would be interested to know if it were possible to spend $80K already on this in legal fees? @Edgecrusher Seems quite a bit for one short appearance. I think it is only $1K to lodge at the supreme court. Someone has made serious coin in a week. Other things to consider would be appeal. To whom? Counsel are obliged to inform their clients if the matter has no hope of winning, is that not so? Are go fund me things accountable or audited? Some serious angst coming from a number other horse groups because of Maguire and his tactics. People starting to back away from any association.

The filing fee for commencing an application in the VSC is $742.00.

It'll depend, of course, on a number of factors. How many lawyers that have been working on the matter, the counsel used in the hearing - a QC/SC can charge north of $8,000 per day for appearing in court, and they're likely to have a junior appearing with them, so think anywhere between $3-5,000 there.
If you have 2 or 3 lawyers instructing counsel then they might be charging anywhere between $2,500-5,000 per day too for each of them (thinking of usual charge out rates for juniors of $300/hour and partners ~$400-500/hour).

Poor Jill Pickering. I believe she paid for the entire Federal Court matter out of her own pocket. That is some dedication which I do admire. Where were all these bleeding hearts who are forking out money now? I am sure she is shaking her head in disbelief. Maguire could not give a rats about the horses and is only feeding on the publicity. When this is all over the RR group will lose over 15000 people who are not interested in following a red neck, gay bashing, xenophobic with an agenda to rape the forest and the mountains.

In the end it may turn out that Phil has achieved more for Alpine conservation by torpedoing the opposition to the cull than any amount of left wing activism.

That'd be even more ironic than him applying to the Supreme Court seeking support for his views, but suggesting that if they deny him the injunction he will ignore the decision and do as he pleases.

Mate we had one in the Federal Court only a couple of weeks back.
But Phil et al might go again and file yet another unmeritorious proceeding to stay the shooting again.

Just from what I'm seeing reported, Moore J suggested to the State that it give an undertaking for sufficient length of time to allow Phil to file an appeal and hold off on the commencement of shooting.

Can’t see any reasons for a successful appeal - but they might as well go through the process and drain the cash from the support pool - will prevent future idiocy.

There is a procedure to have a person declared a vexatious litigant. It means that such a person cannot start proceedings without prior court approval. Statements like this would be useful.

Come on Lee Kernaghan save our heritage brimbys

They have just realised they can’t afford this. Brilliant! Every post has someone from their legal team asking for donations to their go fund me or bank account. A lot of people are going to be out of pocket with “donations” straight in the Maguires pockets.

It looks like curtains for our Keyboard warrior cum Brokeback mountain cowboy and all round flat earth gay hating right wing nut bar feral horsey loving looney.
Hopefully the rabble with a limited gene pool from which he has sprung from has been utterly depleted of cash by their court case and will just go away and stop bothering sane fact orientated people about saving feral animals. Equal rights for foxes, pigs, deer, dogs ,cats , horses etc. All feral animals should all be exterminated equally.

cruisin along and telenomore like this.
