Anyone got any suggestion for suitable locations for the inexperienced wanna be winter camper to start? I just want to get out there when the time comes and experience tenting in the snow- preferably not an overpopulated campground by the road. I heard Lewis tops - relatively easy access from parking.

I'll leave the good spot suggestions to others, except for this,

The best place to test your equipment setup and iron out any bugs or inadequacies in equipment or willpower is a cold, wet and windy night in your backyard.

Wind and rain is a serious test.
