With the minimum temp in Canberra this morning dropping to -8C and a forecast maximum of 13C, giving a diurnal range of 21C, which is more like the ranges seen in springtime.

Goulburn also should have a similar DTR going from -9.6C to forecast max of 11C

Usually quite wide under clear skies like today and much narrower if cloudy.

Orange did well, as well. Min of -7C and just reach 11C this arvo yielding DR of 18C. I noticed Orange Aiport also dropped from -3.7C to -7C in 30 minutes according to the AWS. No wind shift or strength change, it must sit nicely in a hollow spillway.

A popular trend this winter so far is for the lower areas to be colder overnight than the peaks.

Thredbo top station was sitting on around -1C since midnight and above zero since 5:30am.

By contrast, Canberra had another -8C morning and still below zero at 9:10am

I suspect there were killing frosts in some of the alpine hollows. They make -8 seem warm. Maintains the inverted tree line by killing off invading eucalypts.

Ice was forming on the Thredbo river on the edges as we crossed on the Skitube this morning. Certainly cold in the valleys and now warming up on the hill.
