I think he took his bat and ball and went home. He took a negative view of a post from a long term and respected forum member and hasn't posted since. Total misunderstanding if that was the catalyst for his disappearance.

Fresh line of inquiry: does anyone know what happened to the Charlotte Pass BoM station? Are they no longer gathering data there? How will we know if we ever break the -23 record for Australia? SAD!

Will this have any significance on our winter weather do you think? What are other outcomes from colder then average Antarctica?

So the young bloke on NSW Central Coast shivered his way through the weekend just gone. On the plane back up here tomorrow for a few days and a trip to Townsville for the v8's this weekend. T shirt and shorts country still.

It was never going to be a crash-hot season, I think everyone mostly agreed with this assessment. It can't always be amazing and Australia is fickle at the best of times. Enough doom and gloom, just enjoy what we have. Weather is incredibly complex and it can take one small change to make everything amazing.

    Absolutely!
The 1300hrs balloon picked up -2/-12/-32C (in line with GFS modelling), which puts snow down to around ~900m IMO.
It's a mirror image system in aspect and trajectory to last Friday's so would expect 2-5cm up there tonight.

Considering the consistent year-in-year-out failure of sufficient snow during July school holidays, I think those in control of racing events should really take a long hard look and make a change to racing schedules and put them outside of 4 state/territory school holidays. It's becoming seriously ridiculous.

Since this was the 1st decent dump, were the skiers / boarders chopping it up a lot (due to the crowds) ? This may not have been a problem with dry snow. Wet snow is a different story. Very hard to turn in. Got a cracked rib in it in 2009.

To be honest though, snow on the Stirlings is all about novelty.

Your socked in the cloud when up there, the wind is usually about 5 bajillion knots, in between gusts, it's that nasty just above, just above, just below zero temp & the stuff that falls, well it's barely worthy of being called snow.

Probably should just move everything permanently to Perisher. At either end of the season they manage to serve up significantly better snow / course prep / race management / terrain than any other resort.
I suppose having so much area at a higher altitude, and slopes with so many different aspects, helps them immensely. But you gotta credit their race department / management as well. In NSW they really put Thredbo to shame who try too run racing now on lower super trail which is usually sugary sh*t to ski on.
And its about the same distance for the Mexicans to drive as it is for Sydney siders. Keeps it fair :)

No Thredbo for us this year :D But Buller ..... Agree that Perisher does it very well. States at Thredbo 3 years ago, I think we can all recall that BX course at Merritts where they ran out of blood buckets.
