I guess on tonight's BOM for NSW we should wait for the 2 day rule to actually kick in ...
season starter 4.0 ...
Thredbo BOM currently -9.2 but sadly no moisture about until approx. 3am tonight. Looking at WZ, real moisture not getting there until 2pm onwards tomorrow, but temps are pretty marginal by then, pushing into the positives from approx, 7pm Mon until 6am Tue- are you guys seeing that in the models or are the BOM just being concervative? Are we expecting some prefrontal with this second phase?
Yes to prefrontal.
I think Sydney would have to be the best place to be at the moment in the world....! It's 20 dgs middle of winter no wind kids down the beach fishing and stuff
If you like that kind of stuff. Personally I'd be happier with 10c, wind blowing and raining. You can keep your 20 degree weather
No idea when this was taken, but it's an awesome shot from somewhere in the NSW backcountry.
**** me, check out the 'cyclone' to strike NZ later this week....
Book your tickets for next week
West side of Watson's Creek...
Get some negative SAM all up and at you Australia & New Zealand!
AAO forecast doesn't look too shabby for late-July: http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/precip/CWlink/daily_ao_index/aao/new.aao_index_ensm.html
A pity that 00Z GFS has warm temps over us mid-next week.... Might have to wait a while.
EC has something perhaps brewing for the 26th
GFS hinting on it too.
hit 25 in Perth today ARGGGGGHHH
Hasten those retirement plans and make an advance move on Alpine property purchase.
I'd love to but my cash reserves couldnt keep up
Stay focused, you must do it!
If I had less of a mortgage and more cash savings I'd be snapping this up...
oh go for it! you'll regret it if you don't
Ah yes, I have seen that one. Very Noice indeedy!
Wednesday morning lolerful... GFS all in for Aug 2nd...
Only GFS? I'm watching that date range as per earlier comments so hoping it's not too much of a lol
at that date range everything's a lol.
file away, look again in 4 days.
Last week of the month looking interesting imo.
Just not seeing consistent proper cold daytime temps this year. Even with this front and the fresh snow its still above freezing at Perisher Village today i.e. snow will become much less fun and dry. We need proper cold days with fresh snow r with max temps not above about -3 to -4 that stick around for a couple of days.......Its mid/late July which is when you would expect coldest temps right? It seems like it struggles to stay sub zero at present.......a climatic trend or just this year?
Purely just the way this system played out. Nothing more.
Happened exactly as most here predicted. 20 to 30cm
It snowed at the big 4 plus buller.
Need a base. It's a win.
has disregarded that it was -4 and colder most of back end of last week and the weekend.... In fact, the only thing that saw the front of this system deliver snow was the residual cold temps when the prefrontal arrived on Monday night. Oh, but that didn't happen at Perisher so it didn't happen anywhere. Disregard.
Pissing down in Perth at the moment.
Big low over the southwest looks more like a cyclone than a low
Except the southern vic resorts were meant to get good snow from the Southerly.
Baw baw and Lake Mountain didn't ..
Not liking temps later next week, looks like R*** at Buller. Hopefully the lows can push through?
25th and 28/29th look pretty marginal.
Yeah, I'm at Buller 27/28th. Hoping the charts improve!
Completely unrelated to weather obs and forecasting so apologise if this is not the right area... But worth to know:
the real hills!
Too warm unfortunately.
Quantity of moisture was on point.
1st of August just popping into free EC range now... worth watching.
Models pretty meh this morning. Spag still hinting at 31-1st period but hellava lot of uncertainty.
all wa-centric with potential ridging.
Got some moisture to play with for the next two weeks, as MJO is in our region.
Would I be right in saying that this winter in Melbourne and VIC at large as been one of the driest on record? From what I can find data wise it looks like we have only had 30mm of rain and from my own memory of living here for 9 years I cannot recall a drier winter with a distinct lack of direct hit cold fronts.
Granted we have 2+ months to go and things can change.
It's been dry.
But not in the 2006 lawns drying out in winter type though.
Plus there's a bit of snow.
Yeah not doom and glooming btw! Just an observation.
Certainly the driest winter since then. I still have irrigation systems on in some of the Sandy soil profile gardens I look after on the peninsula. Nice drop yesterday and day before at least.
which way did you guys end up getting the moisture from yesterday ?
SE or SW ?
I'm interested to know which side of Tassie ....
We still usually get stuff on the coast even with the shadow effect.
I see Mt. Dobson in N.Z. had a forecast today for 123cm. That's a reasonable fall !
Kewl. As you prolly read I was watching on satellite the moisture feed in from the IO for couple of days.
Could also see it on the radar sliding up East coast of Tassie, Vic and wider of NSW.
Good to get other thoughts to add to the sketchy memory bank.
The year Buller had just Burke Street and LBS open most of the season?
