    Lights are all up and ready to go by the looks of things (1st April).

    I think its a really great idea, considering snowmaking is top to bottom. Should be a big attraction for those up there this season.

    That is going to be awesome. The first half decent length run to be available for night skiing in Oz.

    kamikaze racing snow-ploughers on ice - i can live without that

    of course on a moonlit night with a lift running.....

    Wombat's. The most underrated run in Vic. Hit it at warp, with no punters in the way... a very satisfying run. At least in the early 90s, when the lift was was called Halleys.

    Did the summit end due to a lack of interest? Steepness would rule out > 50% skiers

    Someone who worked for the lift company told me it was stopped as they thought it was unsafe. It would have been hard to stop people leaving the lit areas, and may have become quite dangerous. It would be great if they did still have it though, but at least they finally have more night skiing than just gully. I'm hoping that we might be able to ski under the falls express lift, assuming this area is lit as well, as this would be much steeper than wombats. I guess a reasonable amount of snow would be needed though.

    The race club ran side by side, elimination style GS races on it one night.

    I was there with the RMIT surf club (who were on a snowboarding trip) watching. We soon found a way to participate in the races - they start - we start sculling a jug. My performance was pathetic, I still had a 'third of the course behind' when the rolled over the line.

    Trying to portray the lay of the land... it's last and fast hoot I actually recall, not Wombats... but, you get the idea.. and winding the clock back on Google Earth revealed the detail.... after I had drawn the first graphic.. [IMG] [IMG]

    The first run I ever did after learning to ski at the Cloud 9 area of Falls Creek is Wombat's Ramble - I perfected my snow plough turns on that run waaaay back in 1989 :D. I have fond memories of skiing that run, and it'll always be a personal favourite of mine there. [IMG]

    Last and Fast Hoot has me entertained on our one and only trip to Fall's where almost the entire week was a white out! But Wombats bored me to tears - just too flat for too long to be fun I felt - but it was my 3rd son's fave run of the trip. Good to see real attempts as Night skiing in Aus, with proper lighting being installed, but I think a week long ticket should automatically include a night ski, as Season Passes should include all Night Ski nights. They should also simple turn the lights on and keep those lifts running, rather than as Thredbo does close for a few hours and then reopen for the night ski.

    Nighta is awesome in Niseko - my only night ski's in Aus have been on bulletproof ice - not so much fun.

    I would pay extra $20 extra to do it once. Can't see it as great value considering the run is only wombats. However, no doubt it will appeal to a wider range of Falls Creek customers, Beginner / Intermediate skiiers / Familys. Thats where they will make the money off it.

    I agree with your Mamabear, it would be nice if it was included as an insetive to purchase say a week long ticket or season pass.

    You can always take up the night ski if you've had the day off - makes it good value just to get some turns in without forking out the $102 for the day ticket.

    It is true that nothing will beat Niseko's night skiing here in Australia but the novelty will be tempting for one night this season.

    Also down the summit at Falls.

    Wombats is a windy 2.2km run however, which I think will make this a bit different from the rest.

    Just got this..

    Australia’s longest green run and a favourite for many at Falls Creek, Wombats Ramble will light up on Wednesday and Saturday nights from 6pm to 9pm to provide extra slope time after the sun goes down.

    High voltage floodlights, operating on Green Power will illuminate the 2.2km trail from the top of Falls Express downhill to Quay West.

    High capacity snowmaking along the entire length of Wombats Ramble, will ensure you can experience night riding both earlier and later in the season, as well as providing beginner home trail access to the village through out the season.

    Night Skiing on Wombats Ramble provides an exciting experience for all level riders, from beginners practicing their newly learnt turns to the more experience that want to carve it up while the stars are out.

    Wombat’s Night Skiing - Session Prices 2010;

    * Adult $20, Child $10, and Student $15
    * Family and Group rates available.

    Will you need to buy a night ticket for 5 year olds if they don't need a ticket for day skiing?

    I think it is chintzy of FC to charge season's pass holders extra to ride at night.

    i thought that too, but they do give you season ticket holders a voucher to try night skiing once for free. i doubt that i'll need to do it more than once
