considering the current weather events, and lack of anything significant falling on top of the losses, what does everyone think about B/C this weekend? weather supposed to be good, but who knows about snow quality and depth? was thinking bogong myself, but could be a few trees in the way of the car after that wind...
Go for it! A bloke from Falls Ck said on the radio this morning that it started snowing there at 1 am last night. They got 10-15cm overnight, and perhaps the earlier rain might have been snowing higher up anyway. There'll be plenty to ski in the southern gullies, I'm sure. You might be better off walking up the Staircase, rather than risking a long, boring walk up the Eskdale Spur road if you have to leave the car early (I can tell you it sucks, from personal experience!) Leave some snow for me for in a few weeks, eh?
yeah fair enough. was hoping to get to eskdale or granite flat, but may have to do staircase as you've mentioned. does the wind really rip into it down low? wonder if any parkies will have been up there by the weekend...
I was planning a trip to Feathertop. I'm in a holding pattern till I see what is happening with the possible rain. It could be Razorback AGAIN.
The snow could be wind packed, bumpy to ride, and unlikely to soften a great deal if temperatures stay low. Also predicting snow Saturday night and a not so great on Sunday either. Saturday first half of day would be best I think.
i ended up going up to bogong last thursday/friday. conditions were absolutely terrible and bom got the weather forecast wrong. horrid ice, with marginal wind packed fresh stuff on top that was as bad as the ice beneath it. still enough snow for good spring conditions once some warmer weather arrives though..
I got the same near thredbo last thursday. Things should be looking a little better after this weekend though.
Check out my aerial photos taken today, over Vic and NSW... very hazy, and late in the day. But gives you an overall idea of snow cover. .. click to snow talk thread
Sorry to hear the snow was so pants. Did you end up driving up Eskdale Spur, or were there trees across the track from the recent storm? I'm heading up there in a couple of weeks (if we don't keep getting 24 C days here in Melb)...
