Hi. I went to Mt. Cobbler in December 2018 . It was a long drive into Lake Cobbler from Melbourne.
However it did get me thinking about how the area above the tree line on Mt. Cobbler would be good to ski on. It is not too steep and you could do some really nice wide turns coming down from the edge of the escarpment back to the tree line.
    Has anyone done this?.
It would be approximately a 2 hour slog from Lake Cobbler to skiable terrain at Mt. Cobbler , carrying skis on a day pack. There were many trees down on the hiking track from the Lake to the Mt. Cobbler area ,so it could be a PITA carrying skis just get some fresh turns in the Back country.
Once you are there you could also schlep 12 kms up to Mt. Speculation .
It would be a long drive and walk just to do this. Is it better just to stick to Keppel's hut at Lake Mtn. or Mt. Stirling?

or the Bluff. Shorter hike in, better ski terrain for the effort. But your concept could be appealing to some.

I managed a couple of trips to Cobbler back in the '70s. It is an amazing place in snow, but you have to time it when Buller has a big dump low down.
The first trip was from Cobbler to Speculation and snow was only a hundred metres up from the car. It's a spectacular trip once you get to Koonika.
The next trip wasn't good, dodgy snow and a lot of work and we managed to get to just along the Speculation Road before camping.

It’s all about time available vs effort expended. Many of us are time poor.
