Love this thread. Me and fellow snow bunny, circa 1973, school ski trip to Smiggins. Gotta love the hats!
I so relate to this. School trip 1974. Stated at sport and rec. Had caught the train to Cooma. i remember looking at that chair and being overwhelmed. Such a steep slope. Lol. And I remember someone going in the creek. More lol. And I remember our farm kids being given a tour of a sheep farm. Lol
Yeah, I don't think there was much skiing that weekend either. The smuggled grog appeared on the bus before we hit Liverpool!
Here is some footage that my Dad shot in Thredbo in 1973 and 1983. Mum & Dad weren't skiers but wanted to show us there is snow in Australia! It was the 1st time I would see snow (in 1983) and I wouldn't see it again until I was 25 years old and went snowboarding for the 1st time in 2000. I have had a few trips each season for 20 years since then! (only 1 trip in 2020 though)
Kitzbuhel, Austria sometime in the 90’s. The young lady is Mrs S these days. My red North Face jacket only got replaced this year (and is still in the cupboard as a walking jacket). The guest house ‘Villa Hummer’ was our business and home for nearly ten years (converted to apartments nowadays). And I still have all my hair, although grey these days. Good times.
I think ‘92 jumping off the building opposite opposite Zirkys deck at Hotham. Skiing in a Bart Simpson tshirt as you do.
Some photos my dad took in 1975 Perisher The Perisher Centre Perisher Manor - at this time before the extensions were added it was called The Valley Inn hotel The old wooden ski jump on the south slope of Mt Piper Front Valley The Perisher View Hotel, Pipers Gap. I think it was demolished late 70's or early 80's Downloading at Thredbo in summer
On our very first trip to the Snowy Mountains in 1978, Mum used tent flies to make us waterproof pant shells. It was May so there was only enough snow for some tobogganing
memories of the grass ski hill at Jamberoo, and the 5hour wait in Wollongong hospital with a shattered arm. I dont think the decor in that half has been updated since the photo.
One of the best days I’ve had and now one that means so much more 28/07/2003 the day after my birthday and the day after a massive night at the hoo har. Tracked out everything before anyone had even got out of bed and then out to Main Street. and I will leave it with this
Fashion and skiing style/ability hasnt changed much over the years for some... Summit access poma was one of the best...
Look at that guy, he is great and having the time of his life. The jacket still exists somewhere Lovely Buller day too.
Im guessing the guy in front was as well but those were the days when even the worst hangover with 3 hours sleep disappeared completely by lunchtime. Now even a mild hangover means a couple of days on the couch, very careful medically controlled diet and a couple of weeks of emotional support services.
My uncle with his gf. "This was the winter of 1976 – we had just arrived and got progressively snowed in because the snow plows couldn’t keep up with the heavy falls. Took us an hour to find and then dig out the truck!"
You do know that @LiveToSki is behind the camera. Chances of him being hungover were low though I suspect this might be one of the weekends he was.
