@Heinz are you sporting a pair of those anti cross over gadgets in this pic?
Ha ha no.
I can't remember what they were called. They were angled square attachments which sat just behind the tips and were set an an angle leaning forward. The goal was to stop the ski from crossing. From memory they started in the race scene and were popular with slalom skiers.
Yeah, had forgotten about those. Did have them on that set of skis. I don't think they really achieved anything, at least not for me. Was a short term experiment only. Can't remember what they were called either.
So that what the things are on my avatar. I could'nt figure it out.
Parablocks IIRC. Had them on a pair of skis circa 1980. Had these ones
In the first pic I was celebrating reaching my first 1/2 million vertical feet with HMH. Was skiing with the late great Paul Scaife (founder of HMH), so thought I would do one run with his pack. Paul used to ski with a pretty bulky pack in those days. Happily gave it back to him for the next run.
Yeah, that rings a bell. Mine were just the plastic ones - a bit more like these.
I think that part of the deal with those plastic ones was that they provided extra lift for the tips in soft snow. Another in the very long list of bullshit devices associated with snowsports.
Yep that's it Parablocks.
Perisher View was still open in the '90s. Stayed there with a bunch of mates in 93.
